Principal’s Report ~ Milly Stone
Congratulations Dural What another truly outstanding week at Dural. It started with Year 4 attending their 3 day camp to Katoomba and Jenolan Caves. Their knowledge, behaviour and group work was outstanding. All our guides at all the different venues raved about how truly amazing the children were. Congratulations Year 4. This was then followed up with Dural placing 1st and 3rd in the Maths Cup Competition and won $2000.00 for the school. Mrs Heinrichson and the students are deciding how they can spend this money for the school. We had students in the regional spelling bee on Monday and they competed so well and represented Dural proudly. On Tuesday we hosted the Hills Public Speaking Competition. Once again our students were superb. The highlight was we had Emily W win the Year 5 Hills Public Speaking competition. We also need to congratulate Marcus W on his selection to represent NSW at the 2019 Australian Junior Squash Championships in Devonport. Jayden is ranked equal second!
Bring In Day - Friday This Friday is our ‘Bring In’ Day for our country fair. We still need cans of drink, any flavour and bottles of water. Children are able to wear mufti on Friday.
Guessing Competition Books Guessing Competition books will be sent home today with the children. This is a huge money raiser for the country fair and we are asking you to once again support this event. Great to take them to neighbours, extended family members and of course the work place. The prizes are fantastic. There are prizes for the students who sell the most books. Thank you to all the businesses who donated all the prizes. Extra books are available at the Office. Tickets are $3 ea, 2 for 5$ or $20 for the book.
Art Show This will be held on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 September. Miss C and the children have worked so hard towards this and the results are amazing! We look forward to your attendance at our annual art show.
Book Week Parade The book week parade is to be held Wednesday 25 September at 9:30 in the Hall. Children will come dressed as their favourite book character (NO SUPER HERO COSTUMES PLEASE). Details are on page 3.

Regional Spelling Bee Denzel (6H), Cyrus (6A), Cooper (4B) and Ella (4F) did DPS proud at the regional Spelling Bee held at Hornsby North PS on Monday, 9th September. They all progressed through the more difficult rounds to the last of the word list rounds and Ella advanced into the unseen words round. The competition was at a very high level and they can be congratulated on their excellent performance, neat appearance and polite manners. Well done! Mrs Dwyer
Book Week Parade 2019 Dear Parents, Dural Public School will be holding a K-6 Book Week Character Parade on Wednesday, 25th September 2019 @ 9:30am in the hall. Parents are invited to attend.
The Book Week theme for 2019 is ‘Reading is my Super Power’.
Reading does indeed give us secret powers: the power to walk in the shoes of others through their stories; the power to escape into other worlds; the power to improve vocabulary and imagination…the list goes on.
Let your imagination run wild!! Students will come dressed in their costumes and stay in their costume for the remainder of the day. Children need to be comfortable. For safety reasons, they need to wear sports shoes, school shoes or enclosed footwear. An option for those children who do not wish to dress-up is to wear mufti and create a sandwich board (refer to image) depicting a picture/drawing/painting/image of their favourite book character or book. It’s simply a cardboard frame front and/or back that the student wears over their shoulders.
Please no super hero costumes.
Yours sincerely, Mrs Bev Moore (Teacher Librarian)

the fun starts.
