Home Education Newsletter 05 March 2021
Next week marks another important step in getting our school, work and home lives back to normal. Information has been emailed out to all parent/carers with details of our return to school and it can also be found on the school website. I would like to thank you all - our students, their families and our hard-working teachers and support staff - for everything you have done during this trying time. Everyone has played their part in keeping home learning going – together we have made it through Lockdown 3! This magazine shows more examples of the fantastic work that has been produced at home – well done all and let’s continue with this high standard of work as we begin with face to face lessons next week. Mr Weston, Headteacher
Well done to Mollie W in Year 10
Last year before lockdown Mollie was invited to the Open University maths masterclass through her Maths teacher but sadly after only a couple of Saturdays at Bradford university the classes were cancelled along with everything else due to Covid-19. Last month the classes resumed online and Mollie was invited back.
Our congratulations go to Molly who took part in a Maths competition on the course and came first out of a hundred participants! Well done Molly!
Mr Grimshaw was impressed
by this excellent Suffragette
Twitter page created by Mia J
in his Yr 8 history class.
Martha S in Yr 10 organised a bake off for her friends on zoom.
Martha supplied ingredients and led the zoom session to cheer her
friends up and have something social and practical to do to lift their
spirits. Well done Martha, Mrs Wilkinson was very proud.

Here are two Valentine's day food love poems (in Spanish) created by Year 8 students Keira B and
Megan S. Mrs Aguirre Bernard was very impressed by the creativeness and language used by both!
Mrs Perretta asked her Year 7 Spanish class to design a Carnival mask and they all did a great job -
here are some examples. Mrs Perretta says “Carnival is a world-wide festive season that usually takes
place in February, just before Lent. Festivities generally involve a large parade where the public
dresses up in fancy costumes, wear colourful face masks and there are street bands. Spain has some
of Europe’s biggest and best Carnival festivals (when not in a pandemic).”

World Book Day Competitions
It was World Book Day yesterday - ordinarily the English department hold scavenger hunts in school
which involve lots of our staff dressing up as literary characters and invite authors in to talk to our
students. Sadly with schools still closed we are unable to do things the same way this year.
However! Miss Powell has emailed students in all year groups to ask them to join in with these
competitions to help us celebrate World Book Day at home!
Miss Powell said,
There are three competitions running in school to celebrate World Book Day this year:
a reading challenge a writing competition a book themed cookery competition!
The competitions are open for all year groups (6th form included) and staff can enter the baking
competition too!
The closing date for all competitions is Monday 29th March and entries should be emailed to me:
Also, www.worldbookday.com has lots of activities and live readings to enjoy.
Thanks and good luck! Miss Powell
Check your emails for full information and get involved!

Year 8 Poetry Miss Eyles-Smith thought this was a brilliant example of the work Year 8 are doing at the moment on Macbeth – well done Ella W!
Tongue of snake and leg of newt Bulldogs spit and mouldy fruit Scale of fish and sting of eel Flippers of a new-born seal Hand of child who is kind
Blood from man who has gone blind Six drops of acidic rain
Squeals of laughter and of pain Memory of a distant dream Echo of a long lost scream
High pitched screech muffles the sound
Ghosts from underneath the ground As they begin to arise
Up into the cloudy skies You must listen to their truth
An armed head, a bloody youth A child crowned holding a tree
Look at them, why don’t you see They are here to guide you through
Your journey of power true
Spirits cackle spirits screech With the message that they teach
Macbeth, Macbeth, hear their shout Listen here you must watch out
Anyone who’s woman born Cannot harm you but they warn
Macduff fled to England He could gain the upper hand
Macbeth, Macbeth hear their call Watch out now or you will fall
