Home FrontMarch 2014
The Official Publication of the Manatee-Sarasota Building Industry Association
Greetings Members! The 2014 Parade of Homes was a huge success and we are proud to bring this event to the community with a bigger and better POH this year and next year looks very promising as well. We had 80 new home models and a few developments and several subcontractor entries. The POH traffic count of visitors to our builder’s models this year was close to last year, but reportedly of a higher quality of buyers more ready to make the buying decision than ever before. The 2014 POH kick off with the Realtor Preview
was outstanding with over 250 realtors in attendance. Over 250,000 copies of the POH magazine was distributed throughout the community. The Awards Dinner was sold out even before we could send out an invitation to the general membership with over 240 in attendance at the Lakewood Ranch Country Club. We will be looking for a larger venue for the 2015 POH.
The first annual BIA Sporting Clays Event is on Friday March 28th at the Ancient Oak Gun Club, we have a lot of teams signed to compete. Its going to be a great day!
Your BIA board of directors and our assigned state directors will be heading to Tallahassee on April 7th and 8th to meet with our legislators. We will be bringing them our concerns and will work hard to get our elected officials to help us with these issues for the good of our industry.
The committee meetings for the 2014 Sarasota Slam are under way! The format going forward will focus solely on Inshore and Offshore divisions. We hope to engage more membership participation and also create more opportunities for members to participate and network in a team environment. The Slam will take place August 8th and 9th at Marina Jack. We expect to have a great fishing tournament for years to come. All new sponsorships are now available. Contact Leslie here at the BIA office for more information on the committee, sponsorships and information on how to enter. You can also like our Sarasota Slam Facebook page for up-to-date information and visit our website at www.SarasotaSlam.com.
We are still working on and tracking the revisions for Sarasota County’s 2050 plan. Last week the BOCC voted unanimously to move forward on Phase two of the revisions. They are planning the final phase of revisions in May of 2014.
We are currently searching for an Education committee chair person to head up a committee to develop and plan a variety of educational programs for the BIA membership. If you have any interest, please contact Alan Anderson or Drew Smith for more information.
Lastly, the 2014 Spring Fling Golf Tournament is just over a month away on May 9th at the Legacy Golf Club Course in Lakewood Ranch. Get your sponsorship and teams together. Contact Beverly at the BIA office.
Best,
Alan Anderson Executive Vice President
