STEP 1: With your brown construction paper and drawing utensils, draw a tree trunk and tree branches for your leaves to sprout from. If you don’t have construction paper, just use plain white paper that you can color in. With your parent’s help, cut out these items and tape them to a window, wall, or other hard surface, like your bedroom door. You can also cut out the Jack and Annie adventure art below, or draw art of your own!
STEP 2: Decide what your reading goal will be this week, and write that on one of your tree branches. Most important, start reading!
STEP 3: Once you’ve completed your first reading goal, make a leaf out of green paper (or white paper colored green). Write the name of the book that you’re reading and the chapter(s) that you’ve just completed on your newly created leaf. Tape the leaf to your tree trunk—your tree is now taking shape! Add a new leaf every time you complete a reading goal. The more books you read, the more your tree will grow! Before you know it, you will have a fully formed tree that Jack and Annie would be proud to have their tree house in!
Keep Growing Your Reading Tree with These New Adventures!
You can start a new tree by following these instructions, or you can continue to add to the reading adventure tree you have
already started—the choice is yours!
Ask your parent’s permission before using
scissors!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:• Green construction paper
(or plain white paper)
• Brown construction paper (or plain white paper)
• Scissors
• Glue
• Colored pens, markers, or crayons
• Tape

STEP 4: Measure a piece of string or ribbon around your neck. Cut it at the length you prefer. Then thread the string or ribbon through the medal. Tie the ends together. Now you can host an Olympic competition!

STEP 1: Take a coffee fi lter and fl atten it out into a circle. If you do not have a coffee fi lter, you can draw a circle on a white piece of paper and cut it out with your parent’s help. Glue the coffee fi lter to a piece of construction paper.
STEP 2: With a pencil, draw two lines on the coffee fi lter that resemble the lines on
a baseball (slightly curved). Once you have drawn the lines, take a red pencil and draw the stitching on both lines. You can create the stitches by drawing lots of small V shapes over the lines.
STEP 3: Now decorate the construction paper! Draw grass, bases, or baseball bats to create a scene that’s sure to be a home run!
Paper Baseball Play ball! Hit it out of the park with this baseball craft!

STEP 1: Take a paper plate and draw a rectangle on it. The rectangle should be about the size of the middle of the paper plate. Draw goal lines and midfi eld lines to make it look like a soccer fi eld.
STEP 2: On a piece of paper, draw a soccer player with a soccer ball. You can make the player look like you! Color the player and soccer ball. With your parent’s help, cut the player and soccer ball out.
STEP 3: Use your parent’s help for this step! On your paper plate, cut out a path for your soccer player.
This can be a squiggly line from one goal to the other.
STEP 4: Draw other players on the soccer fi eld. Color in the players and the soccer fi eld.
STEP 5: Glue or tape a wooden stick (such as a Popsicle stick or skewer) onto the back of your cutout of a soccer player. If you used glue, let it dry. Then insert the player through the cut in the paper plate. You can move the stick so the player moves across the fi eld. Now you have a fi eld ready for a soccer match!
