A mental disorder or mental illness is a psychological pattern, potentially reflected in behavior, that is generally associated
with distress or disability, and which is not considered part of normal development of a person’s culture. Mental disorders are generally defined by a combination of how a person feels, acts,
thinks or perceives.
Under the National Health Service and Community Care Act in 1990, people with mental health problems were able to remain in their own homes whilst undergoing treatment. This meant
that the majority of psychiatric hospitals were in turn shut down.
This book takes you on a journey through a series of eight aban-doned buildings. All of the images were taken using film and were shot using both a Lomography LC-A or a Minature Diana
Camera.
