A Day at the Museumby Teacher Eunice Sampol, Grade 2 Teacher
Last October 10, Thursday, the Grade 2 class went to visit the National Museum of the Philippines inManila to reinforce their Unit 2 study of Records and History. The trip's objective was for the students tosee how history was recorded and how people in the past used variety of tools and methods to recordinformation. The students were also instructed to observe the different kinds of records like printed andwritten media. At the museum, the students visited an area where old Filipino artifacts were displayed. They were ableto see how writings and some writing tools developed over time and how this contributed in recordinghistory. There were also a huge variety of artifacts like writing instruments, media recordings, postersand pictures of the past and the present that really helped the students have a better grasp of howhistory changed over time. At the end of the trip, students and teachers alike developed an appreciation for different recordingmethods and devices that they can use as they further their study in history and recording.

The World Health Organization is pushing recommendations that added sugars should be lessthan 25g or 5% of total daily calories, though current guidelines allow double this amount. Not just associated with many health concerns including tooth decay, ADHD, obesity, diabetes,PCOS, heart disease and cancer, sugar can be very hard to resist. Indeed, sugary processedfoods are formulated to be so irresistibly delicious that people will keep buying more and more. How to reduce added sugars? Read labels to see how much sugar is added to processedproducts. Did you know that sugar has at least 61 different names? Detective work may berequired to find these sugars; that’s an interesting Home Study Project! Buy food withrecognizable food ingredients (not difficult to pronounce chemical names). Focus onunprocessed food such as those bought in the palengke and make treats at home whenpossible.
