World Kidney Day Series 2012

WKD2012@HK: The event for World Kidney Day (WKD) 2012 was held on Sunday 11 March 2012 at Kowloon Park. The theme for 2012 was on Kidney Transplantation: ‘Donate Kidney for Life Receive”. HKKF, HKSN and HKST co-organized the event with the program including Games Stall & Garden of Life visit for WKD 2012. Health Survey, Exhibition and Blood Pressure Taking were held at public estates in the territory with participation by medical & nursing students recruited from both Universities: Medical & Nursing Faculties of HKU & CUHK.

Prof. Richard Yu’s Charity Photographic Exhibition Prof. Richard YU’s Charity Photographic Exhibition (BLOOM II) was held from 27 January to 2 February 2012 at the Exhibition Gallery, Hong Kong Central Library, Hong Kong. The proceeds of the philanthropic exhibition supported the charity organization Hong Kong Kidney Foundation to purchase hemodialysis machines to benefit the patients in Hong Kong. Members of the society attended the Officiating ceremony held on 30 January 2012.

LKEC Health Exhibition 2012 (14 Apr 2012) The LKEC Health Exhibition opening ceremony was held on 14 April 2012 at YMCA, Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui: “糖尿病、腎病知多?健康展覽 2012”. The speakers were Dr. Chun Yu YUNG, Tuen Mun Hospital and Dr. Joseph Shing YEUNG, Tseung Kwan O Hospital.

FMSHK Renal Course 2012

The Certificate Course on Renal Medicine 2012 for Medical & Health Professionals jointly organized by the Society and Federation of Medical Societies of Hong Kong was held on 20 September to 15 October 2012.

The First Hong Kong Transplant and Dialysis Games will be held on 24-25 Nov 2012 at Tsing Yi Sports Ground.

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) World Congress of Nephrology 2013 hosted by the Hong Kong Society of Nephrology in partnership with the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology will be held in Hong Kong from 31 May to 14 June, 2013. Congratulations Prof Richard YU received the Doctor of Social Science at the Conferment of Honorary Degree 2011 (70th Congregation) by the Chinese University of Hong Kong on 15 December 2011.

Prof Daniel T M CHAN was appointed the Yu Chiu-Kwong Professorship in Medicine Nephrology at the Sixth Inauguration of Endowed Professorships of the University of Hong Kong on 20 April 2012.

Prof Sydney C W TANG was appointed the Yu Professorship in Nephrology at the Sixth Inauguration of Endowed Professorships of the University of Hong Kong on 20 April 2012.

Dr Matthew K L TONG was awarded the Outstanding Staff Award 2012 from the Hospital Authority and appointed the Justice of Peace on 30 June 2012

Prof Philip LI was awarded the International Distinguished Medal 2012 by the National Kidney Foundation, USA on 11 May 2012 and was elected President-Elect of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis at the14th Congress ISPD 2012 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Prof C C SZETO was awarded the John Maher Award Medal of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis at the ISPD 2012 held in Kuala Lumpur in September 2012.
