Welcome to Murray State University for the celebration of Honors Day 2008. This special ceremony is held by tradition just before Commencement each spring to recognize the academic accomplishments of Murray State students.
Murray State University is dedicated to the promotion of academic excellence. The students we honor today exemplify fulfillment of the central mission of this University, to ensure that our students receive a college education of the highest quality. In meeting this goal , we rely on the contributions of a distinguished and dedicated faculty and a stimulating and supportive learning environment. Our degree programs receive ongoing review and improvement to maintain their effectiveness and currency. Our efforts are rewarded through the accomplishments of the many outstanding Murray State students like those we honor today.

Annette Fowler. Kristen Landolt Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, has been since 1886 the honor society of scientists. Election to Sigma Xi, made on the recommendation of members, recognizes research and carries with it the opportunity to cooperate with other scientists in the activities of research and scholarship.
GRADY CANTRELL SIGMA XI SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Kevin Witbrodt This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior science major who has demonstrated outstanding schol~hip and has the potential to contribute to his/her field. This scholarship is given in memorial to Grady L. Cantrell who was a valued member of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and Murray State University from 1968 yntil his death in 1994.

SERVICE LEARNING SCHOLARS
Service Learning uses experiential learning techniques to combine community service with specific learning objectives in a course. Through Service Leaming students perform meaningful service to the community while engaging in a study that is related to that service. For students to earn recognition as a Service Learning Scholar they need to complete twelve (12) hours of credit in Service Leaming designated courses. Additionally, the student must have an overall GPA of2. 75 and a minimum GPA of3.0 in the designated classes. This designation will be recognized on the student 's transcript.
