OUR YEAR IN REVIEW 2014 – 2015

Hope, Partnership, Innovation and Excellence

THIS YEAR’S HIGHLIGHTS

Aisling Discoveries Child and

Family Centre works in partnership

with families and communities to

strengthen the emotional and social

well-being of children and promote

their healthy development. We give

children and their families the skills

and knowledge to cope and thrive.

We help children from prenatal to

twelve years of age who have social,

emotional or behavioural problems or

who are at risk of developing them.

We help children and youth up to the

age of 18 who have autism spectrum

disorder.

We are located in east Toronto and

services are predominately provided

in the communities of East York and

Scarborough.

Families come to us seeking hope. We take pride in providing excellence--services that truly improve the lives of families and children. That means working in partnership with others to anticipate what’s needed, giving our staff the tools they need so they can innovate and making sure we are accountable to our community, clients, funders and donors. Here are the highlights of 2014-2015, a year of Hope, Partnership, Innovation and Excellence.

June 2014

We were thrilled to be selected to deliver Preschool Speech and Language Services in the East Service Area by Toronto Public Health. It has been a busy year expanding the team, arranging new sites to ease access for

clients and ensuring that preschool children receive optimal speech and language services in their local communities. We are working with partner agencies to create a consistent, high quality service across the City of Toronto.

September 2014

The Centre was the proud recipient of a donation of over $25,000 from the Business Development Bank of Canada’s (BDC’s) Charity Golf Classic held on September 15, 2014 at Lionhead Golf and Country Club. BDC was a Platinum Sponsor while also coordinating the successful event through its tournament planning committee. Funds were used to support our parenting programs offered in Mandarin and Cantonese.

Our Centre’s own Tournament of Dreams was held on the same day at the beautiful Scarboro Golf and Country Club. The successful event raised much needed funds to enhance our residential treatment program. We

thank our many golfers, sponsors and donors who supported our 7th annual tournament.

October 2014

Our Middlefield site was purpose-built to provide a healthy and safe environment for our autism clients in 2008. At the time the

building was completed, we achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification for using environmentally friendly products and methods wherever possible in our construction and operations. This year we were delighted to receive recognition from the Canadian Green Building Council, Greater Toronto Chapter. Aisling Discoveries was awarded an Innovation in LEED Award in the category of Commercial Interiors at a gala held on October 16, 2014 at the Acadian Court.

November 2014

The Centre upgraded its web site to enable new features! These upgrades mean A level standards for accessibility, better compatibility with

smart phone screens, a homepage carousel of programs and events with links to more information; and key policies uploaded for increased transparency to our clients, donors and the public.

February 2015

Service to clients involved with child welfare has been a priority for Aisling Discoveries. Our Beyond the Basics parenting group was developed in partnership with our local child welfare agencies specifically for their clients.

It has been funded by Agincourt Community Services Association for parents of children under 6 years of age. This year we expanded the program to parents of children up to age 12. We took the same concepts of positive parenting and customized them to address issues facing families with latency aged children – all within the context of child welfare involvement.

March 2015

Through the generosity of individual and corporate donors and government support, we have been able to advance our use of technology in working with kids and families. All therapy rooms were equipped with new

TVs and DVDs with direct links to a new media server and many children are using IPADs for therapeutic, academic and recreational use.

Ongoing Throughout the Year

Our Board of Directors and staff prepared for and participated in its first accreditation review through the Canadian Centre for Accreditation. Everyone did a fabulous job

of demonstrating excellence in service, governance and administration. We are awaiting our final approval and will report back on our results next year. For an update click here.
