Horizon Europe in Nutshell

Horizon Europe - Opportunities

• Open to the world

→ Open to the world, which means that participants from all over the world can participate in most calls (open by default).

• Encouraging international cooperation

→ Focus on global challenges, cross-cutting missions, partnerships, and open science policy

• Horizon Europe offers opportunities for:

→ Collaborative research & innovation projects: carried out by consortia of organisations working together on specific research & innovation areas

→ Individual researcher projects: The European Research Council (ERC) and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (MSCA) offer unparalleled funding opportunities for individual researchers who want to work in Europe.

& others …

• ***The UK is associating to the full Horizon Europe programme with the only exception of the EIC Fund (which is the loan/equity instrument of the EIC).

Horizon Europe - Consortium compositionCollaborative research & innovation projects

• A consortium must include at least 3 participants from 3 different EU Member States or Associated Countries

• At least one independent legal entity established in a Member State; and

• At least two other independent legal entities, each established in different MemberStates or Associated Country

• In addition, entities from other countries (e.g. India) could be included in a consortium

Participation vs. Funding

• Participants from India in collaborative research project, just like participants fromindustrialised countries and the other emerging economies (BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia,India and China)), are not automatically eligible for funding under Horizon Europe.

• Therefore:

Own funding (at Institutional level; contribution in-kind)

Co-funding from Government of India (for bottom-up participation and joint orcoordinated call): discussions on Co-Funding Mechanism ongoing/no Co-fundingmechanism yet.

• Exceptional funding: if required to execute the project
