GOING FAST4TCU’s 96 plays from scrimmage against Samford marked its most in a game since a school record 111 versus San Diego State in 2007.

4TCU’s 555 yards of offense versus Samford marked its best output since the Andy Dalton-led 2010 Horned Frogs posted 558 in a 47-7 win over No. 5 Utah on Nov. 6, 2010 in Salt Lake City.

4TCU’s 33 first downs versus Samford tied for fourth-best in a game in its history and were its most since a school-record 39 at San Diego State in 2007. The 33 first downs tied for second all-time for a TCU home game in the 85-year history of Amon G. Carter Stadium.

BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK4Trevone Boykin was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the season-opening 48-14 win over Samford.

4Boykin totaled 349 yards of offense and three touchdowns. He completed 29-of-41 passes for 320 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also added a 1-yard scoring run.

4The 29 completions were a career high for the Dallas native, while the 320 yards passing were just shy of a career-best 332 against Texas Tech in 2012.

4Boykin added 29 yards rushing and led TCU on scoring drives on seven of his 12 possessions.

JUST CALL HIM ATHLETE4Trevone Boykin became the first Horned Frog in history and the only player in the nation last season with a 100-yard rushing, 100-yard receiving and 200-yard passing game.

4Boykin was one of just seven players nationally last season with a 100-yard rushing and 100-yard receiving game.

4In the 21-17 win at Iowa State, Boykin became the first Horned Frog with three rushing touchdowns in a game since Joseph Turner versus Texas State in 2009.

4Boykin’s three rushing touchdowns in the win at Iowa State came on just five carries, including a 1-yard run with 38 seconds to play for the go-ahead score. He added four receptions for 24 yards.

4Boykin ran for a score, threw for another and contributed four receptions at Kansas State.

4Boykin’s career-best 11 receptions, for 100 yards, against West Virginia were the most by a Horned Frog in 13 seasons under head coach Gary Patterson. It was also the highest total by a TCU player since 1995 (John Washington, 12 versus SMU) while tying for third-most in a game by a Horned Frog since 1991:

No. Name Receptions (Opp.,Yr) 1. Jason Tucker 13 (Kansas, 1995) 2. John Washington 12 (SMU, 1995) 3. Trevone Boykin 11 (West Virginia, 2013) Kelly Blackwell 11 (Houston, 1991)

4Boykin’s 11 catches tied for the eighth most in a game in TCU history.

4With his 101 yards rushing at Texas Tech, Boykin became the first TCU quarterback since David Rascoe (105) versus BYU in 1987 to run for 100 yards.

4Boykin was the first Horned Frog with 100 yards rushing since Waymon James (108) in 2011 at Wyoming.

4Boykin became the first quarterback in TCU history to lead the Horned Frogs in passing yards (133) and receptions (3) in the same game during a 38-17 win over Southeastern Louisiana.

4Boykin is the only quarterback in TCU history to throw for four touchdown passes in back-to-back games (versus Baylor and Texas Tech in 2012).

MR. EFFICIENCY4Trevone Boykin threw just one pass in each of the final two games last season and both resulted in touchdowns.

4Boykin had a 1-yard scoring toss to Josh Doctson at Kansas State and a 21-yard touchdown to LaDarius Brown versus Baylor on his only pass attempts of the game.

4Boykin became just the third FBS player since 1996 to have 1,000 passing yards and 100 receiving yards in the same season.

TCU DEBUT 4Matt Joeckel had a 2-yard scoring toss to Kolby Listenbee on his first official pass as a Horned Frog during the Samford game.

4Joeckel completed 4-of-8 passes for 35 yards. He added a 10-yard carry on his only rush attempt.

NEW FACE, FAMILIAR NAME 4Quarterback Matt Joeckel is not the first member of his family to be a student-athlete at TCU.

4Joeckel’s older sister, Sarah, was an all-conference volleyball player for the Horned Frogs and a three-year letterwinner from 2008-11.

4Joeckel’s twin brother, Luke, was an offensive tackle at Texas A&M and the No. 2 overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2013 NFL Draft.

THE GRADUATE4Matt Joeckel, who has his degree from Texas A&M, arrived at TCU in June for his final season of college football.

4He played in 10 games with one start in College Station. His first collegiate start was in last year’s season-opening 52-31 win over Rice. He completed 14-of-19 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown to help the Aggies to a 28-21 halftime lead.

4For his Texas A&M career, Joeckel completed 27-of-48 passes (56.3 percent) for 335 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

FROG OFFENSIVE NOTESIT’S A RUSH4The Horned Frogs are 66-4 when rushing for at least 200 yards under Gary Patterson as head coach.

4TCU ran for 200 yards against Samford.

NO SOPHOMORE JINX4B.J Catalon was one of just two sophomores (Duke Johnson, Miami) nationally last season with at least 1,100 career rushing yards, 200 receiving and 400 in kickoff returns: 4Catalon, a second-team Academic All-Big 12 honoree, was one of four players nationally last season with a rushing score and kickoff return for a touchdown.

4Catalon’s team-best 569 yards allowed him to become the first player to top TCU in rushing in back-to-back seasons since Joseph Turner from 2007-09.

4Catalon closed the 2013 campaign with a career-best 93 yards on 11 carries against Baylor. His 1,189 career yards are the most among active Horned Frogs.

JOHNSON TOPS THE CHART4Four TCU tailbacks are listed evenly on the team’s depth chart, and it was the last one to enter the game who led the Horned Frogs in rushing against Samford.

4Trevorris Johnson ran for 43 yards on eight carries, including a 7-yard touchdown, in his TCU debut. His scoring run capped a 15-play, 99-yard drive.

SPREADING IT AROUND4Thirteen Horned Frogs had at least one reception against Samford. Included below is a distribution by position: Position Rec. Yards Avg. TDs Y WR 11 114 10.4 1 H WR 8 68 8.5 0 X WR 5 94 18.8 2 TB 5 38 7.6 0 Z WR 4 41 10.3 0 Totals 33 355 10.8 3

COMING ON STRONG4David Porter was second on TCU with five receptions for 54 yards against Samford.

4Dating back to last season, the Horned Frogs’ lone senior wide receiver has become a popular target of late:

David Porter Rec. Yards Avg. TDsLast 6 Games 27 421 15.6 6Previous 7 Games 4 68 17.0 0Totals 31 489 15.8 6

4Josh Doctson has also seen an increase in activity over his last six games:

4Doctson and Porter are tied for TCU’s longest current streak at six games with at least one reception.

CHANGING UNIFORMS4Josh Doctson is the only player in TCU history to score a touchdown for and against the Horned Frogs. He is also the lone active player in college football to reach the end zone for and against his current school.

4Playing for Wyoming in 2011, Doctson had three receptions for 43 yards versus TCU. Included in that total was a 7-yard scoring grab for the Cowboys' first points of the game in a 31-20 loss to the Horned Frogs.

4Doctson’s mother, Tracy Syler-Jones, is TCU’s vice chancellor for marketing and communications.

THE BREAKOUT GAME4Kolby Listenbee’s three receptions, including two touchdowns, against Samford equaled the career output from his first two seasons combined at TCU:

KEEPING BUSY4TCU has three wide receivers who are All-Americans for the Horned Frogs’ track and field team in Cameron Echols-Luper, Kolby Listenbee and Jordan Moore.

4Moore won Big 12 championships in the 60-meter hurdles (indoor) and 110-meter hurdles (outdoor).

4Moore set a TCU record in the 60-meter hurdles on three occasions in the indoor season. His top mark of 7.70 ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 and third nationally.

4Echols-Luper, Listenbee and Moore all competed at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

UTILITY MAN4Wide receiver Jordan Moore is on his fourth position since arriving at TCU. He was signed as a safety and then moved to linebacker and tailback, before landing at wide receiver during spring practice.

OFFENSIVE YOUTH4TCU has just four seniors on its offensive depth chart in left tackle Tayo Fabuluje, quarterback Matt Joeckel, tight end Cliff Murphy and wide receiver David Porter.

YOUTHFUL IMPACT4TCU topped the Big 12 last season in highest percentage (70.2, 2,906-of-4,138) of scrimmage yards from underclassmen. No other school was above 50 percent.

A TCU TRADITION4Since the NCAA began tracking statistics in 1937, TCU trails only Alabama for the most times leading the nation in total defense. The Crimson Tide have been No. 1 six times, while all five No. 1 rankings for the Horned Frogs are in the last 14 seasons.

4In 2010, TCU became just the third program in NCAA history to top the nation in total defense in three consecutive seasons (2008-10). The others are Toledo (1969-71) and Oklahoma (1985-87).

FAMILIAR FACES RETURN IN 20144TCU returned nine starters on defense from a unit that led the Big 12 in rushing defense (130.8 yards per game) last season while placing a close second in total defense (356.4 yards per game).

4TCU was just 6.2 yards behind Oklahoma State in total defense, despite playing 40 more snaps.

4TCU finished 24th nationally in total defense (356.4 yards per game) last season but seventh for teams that played at least 886 snaps.

STRONG DEBUTS4TCU limited Samford to just 143 total yards, marking its fewest allowed since Grambling State was held to 70 yards on Sept. 8, 2012.

4Samford had just nine first downs, representing the fewest by a Horned Frogs’ opponent since Kansas had seven on Oct. 12, 2013.

4Samford’s 56 passing yards were the lowest by a TCU opponent since Grambling State had 26 on Sept. 8, 2012.

DEFENDING THE PASS4Dating back to the 2013 campaign, TCU’s last eight opponents have combined to complete less than 50.0 percent of their passes:

Team Comp. Att. Pct. Yds TD IntKansas 13 26 50.0 152 1 1 Oklahoma State 20 44 45.5 320 0 3Texas 9 19 47.4 228 1 2West Virginia 25 41 61.0 267 2 2 Iowa State 19 40 47.5 173 0 0 Kansas State 13 29 44.8 257 2 1Baylor 19 38 50.0 206 2 1Samford 10 20 50.0 56 0 1Totals 128 257 49.8 1,659 8 11

4TCU has held seven of its last eight opponents to a 50.0 percent or less completion percentage. Seventeen of the last 19 opponents are below 60 percent.

4TCU opponents completed just 51.7 percent of their pass attempts last season with 19 interceptions and only 14 touchdowns.

4Prior to Oklahoma completing 64.5 percent (20-of-31) of its passes, TCU had the nation’s longest current streak (10 games) for keeping its opponent to less than a 60 percent completion percentage.

STUFFING THE RUN4Since 2000, TCU has the nation’s top run defense:

No. Team Rushing Yds Allowed PG 1. TCU 93.7 2. Alabama 101.8 3. Ohio State 103.7

4TCU has held five of its last 11 opponents to under 100 yards rushing, including three (Texas Tech, SMU, Kansas) at 46 or less.

4Samford had 87 yards on the ground.

SHUTTING THEM DOWN4Since 2010, TCU is fifth nationally in most games holding an opponent to less than 10 points:

No. Team Games 1. Alabama 26 2. Florida State 19 3. Michigan State 17 4. LSU 13 5. TCU 12

4Prior to allowing 30 points to Texas last season, TCU was tied for the nation’s longest current streak (six games) for holding opponents to 24 points or less.

GETTING TO THE QB4Mike Tuaua had both of TCU’s sacks against Samford.

4Fellow right defensive end Terrell Lathan had a team-high five sacks last season.

4In 2013, TCU tied for third in the Big 12 in sacks (32) and was 25th nationally with its average of 2.7 per game.

4TCU has had at least two sacks in 14 of its last 17 games.

4Since 2007, TCU is tied for fourth in the nation for most games with at least three sacks:

No. Team Games 1. Virginia Tech 50 2. Stanford 49 3. Cincinnati 47 4. TCU 45 Oregon 45

PICK PARTY4Since 2012, TCU has the third-most interceptions in the nation:

No. Team Interceptions 1. Oregon 45 2. Oregon State 42 3. TCU 41

4Linebacker Paul Dawson’s second career interception was TCU’s lone pick in the season opener versus Samford.

FROG DEFENSIVE NOTESGETTING OFF THE FIELD4TCU’s defense posted a 3-and-out on 10 of Samford’s 15 offensive possessions.

4Included below are TCU’s 3-and-outs in 2014:

Opponent 3-and-Outs (Series) Samford 10 (15) 4TCU recorded a 3-and-out on 64-of-178 (36.0 percent) opponent possessions last season for an average of 5.3 per game, a mark that was 10th nationally.

BREAKOUT GAME4Defensive end Mike Tuaua had a career-high seven tackles, including 3 1/2 for loss, with two sacks and two forced fumbles against Samford.

4Tuaua is from Santa Rosa (Calif.) Junior College, the same school that produced TCU two-time All-America cornerback and 2014 first-round NFL Draft pick Jason Verrett.

TOPPING THE CHARTS AGAIN4Paul Dawson led TCU last season with 91 tackles, making it seven straight years that a linebacker topped the Horned Frogs in that category. The last non-linebacker to lead TCU in stops was safety Marvin White with 86 in 2006.

4Dawson’s 91 tackles were the most by a Horned Frog since Tanner Brock led the 2010 Rose Bowl championship team with 106.

DEFENSIVE LEADERS4TCU’s game-by-game leaders in tackles this season:

Name Opponent Tackles Marcus Mallet Samford 10

4Mallet’s 10 tackles were two shy of a career-best 12 in the 2013 season finale versus Baylor. He now has three career games with double figures in stops.

4Paul Dawson was second on TCU with nine stops in the Samford game. He also had an interception, fumble recovery and pass breakup.

BREAKOUT PERFORMANCES4Linebacker Paul Dawson, a wide receiver at Dallas Skyline High School, has made his mark since being inserted into the starting lineup for the Oct. 12 game last season versus Kansas:

Paul Dawson Tackles Last 8 Games 88 First 18 Games 26

4Dawson had a career-high 17 tackles against the Jayhawks. He has been in double figures in stops in five of his last eight games.

TEAM EFFORTS4Nine different Horned Frogs combined for TCU’s 13 tackles for loss against Samford with Mike Tuaua and James McFarland leading the way with career-high totals of 3 1/2 and 2 1/2, respectively.

TAKEWAYS4The Horned Frogs have at least one takeaway in 13 consecutive games.

WHITE ISLAND4Cornerback Kevin White allowed just one touchdown pass last season, made even more impressive when considering two-time All-American and NFL first-round draft pick Jason Verrett was on the opposite side.

4White’s 28 career starts are the most among active Horned Frogs, one more than Sam Carter (27).

NOSE FOR THE BALL4Sam Carter led TCU with five interceptions last season, while his nine picks over the last three years are the most in the Big 12.

4Chris Hackett had three interceptions and a team-high three forced fumbles last season. His picks came in three consecutive games, the longest streak by a Horned Frog since 2005 (4, Quincy Butler).

4Kevin White had three interceptions and a team-best three fumble recoveries, while his eight pass breakups were second on TCU to Jason Verrett (12).

DUCK DYNASTY D-LINE4Three of TCU’s defensive linemen hail from West Monroe (La.) High School: Chucky Hunter, Terrell Lathan and James McFarland.

FROG SPECIAL TEAMS NOTESTHEY’RE BACK4Placekicker Jaden Oberkrom and punter Ethan Perry are both in their third season as starters.

IT’S A RECORD4With his first extra point in the Samford game, Jaden Oberkrom set a TCU record for consecutive PATs made at 80. He is now 85-of-85 in his career.

4The previous TCU record for consecutive PATs made was 79 by 1995 Lou Groza Award winner Michael Reeder (1994-97).

4Oberkrom’s streak of 85 consecutive PATs ranks third nationally among active players:

No. Name Consecutive PATs (Career) 1. Robert Aguayo, Florida State 102 2. Sean Ianno, UTSA 96 3. Jaden Oberkrom, TCU 85

HE’S GOT LEG4Dating back to 2012, Jaden Oberkrom has made 20 of his last 24 field-goal attempts. Seven of those made kicks were at least 44 yards.

4Oberkrom has two of the four-longest field goals in TCU history:

No. Name Field Goal 1. Michael Reeder 57, UTEP, 1996 2. Jaden Oberkrom 56, Kansas State, 2013 Steve Mormon 56, Oregon, 1977 4. Jaden Oberkrom 53, Michigan State, 2012

4Oberkrom was 14-of-18 on field goals last season. Three of his four misses were from over 50 yards, including just being wide on a 62-yard attempt in overtime against West Virginia. He had the distance.

MR. CLUTCH4Jaden Oberkrom has shown a knack for coming through with the game on the line in the last three seasons:

Opponent FG Time Remaining Texas Tech, 2012 42* 18 seconds Michigan State, 2012 53^ 2:42 West Virginia, 2013 45* 19 seconds Kansas State, 2013 56^ 2:13 *forced overtime ^gave TCU the lead

4Oberkrom is sixth among active players nationally with 1.46 field goals per game in his career.

4Oberkrom’s streak of 12 consecutive games with a field goal, which had been third-longest in the nation, came to an end in the Texas game last season.

THE BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE4Jaden Oberkrom set TCU and Big 12 records, while tying the NCAA freshman mark, with six field goals in a 2012 game against Texas Tech. The NCAA single-game record is seven.

4Oberkrom was 6-of-6 on field goals versus the Red Raiders with made kicks from 32, 41, 32, 45, 42 and 38 yards. His 42-yard field goal with 18 seconds left in regulation forced overtime.

4Oberkrom scored 23 points (six field goals, five PATs) to set TCU and Big 12 single-game records for points by kicking. He was one shy of the NCAA mark.

CLASSROOM EXCELLENCE4Jaden Oberkrom was a 2013 first-team Academic All-Big 12 honoree as well as being on the Capital One Academic All-District team.

4Perry saw 33 of his 80 punts last season fair caught. Opponents had just 17 returns. Outside of a 95-yard return for a touchdown by Oklahoma State, the other 16 returns were for just 88 yards (5.5 avg.).

4Perry’s 44.5 average in 2012 placed second for freshmen nationally and ranked 14th in the NCAA. It was the second-best mark in a season by a TCU punter (Chris Becker, 46.1, 1986).

4The six Founders’ Club suites, located at midfield on the concourse level, were sold at $15 million each to provide lead gifts totaling $90 million.

4There are 25 suites, all sold, on the west side. One of those suites is located on the Champions level, next to the television booth.

4The press box has 132 seats to accommodate media.

4In August 2013, Yahoo! Sports ranked Amon G. Carter Stadium as the best stadium in the Big 12.

4TCU is 4-2 in its last six games against opponents ranked in the top five.

SELECT COMPANY4TCU is one of just 21 schools to have won multiple national championships (1935, 1938) and produce a Heisman Trophy winner (Davey O’Brien, 1938).

4The other schools are Alabama, Army, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Pittsburgh, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M and USC.

Gary Patterson is TCU’s all-time winningest football coach, while his 121-44 record (.733) ranks seventh among active coaches nationally. Patterson is one of just six current coaches with at least 100 victories at their current school. He became TCU’s career wins leader with a 56-0 victory over Grambling State in the 2012 season opener, enabling him to break the previous mark of 109 wins by Dutch Meyer (1934-52). In August 2011, Patterson was named the nation’s top coach by Sports Illustrated and ESPN The Magazine. Sporting News tabbed him in January 2012 as the nation’s third-best coach. He was fourth in an SI.com July 2013 ranking of the nation’s best coaches.

In leading TCU to back-to-back BCS appearances in the 2009 and 2010 seasons, including a 2011 Rose Bowl championship, Patterson received 10 National Coach of the Year honors.

Patterson has produced at least 10 wins in eight of the last 12 years, including seven seasons of 11 or more victories. He has helped lead the Horned Frogs to seven conference titles and 14 bowl games in 16 years.

In 13 seasons as TCU’s head coach, Patterson has had 33 players drafted with 72 in NFL camps.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Trevone Boykin passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third, leading TCU to a 48-14 victory over Samford in the season opener for both teams.

Boykin completed 29 of 41 passes for 320 yards. His touchdown passes covered 38 yards to Kolby Listenbee and 19 yards to David Porter. Boykin’s scoring run came from 1 yard.

TCU piled up 555 total yards, including 200 by eight different rushers, while holding Samford to 143.

TCU, coming off its first losing season since 2004, scored touchdowns on two of its first three possessions on a 2-yard run by B.J. Catalon and Listenbee’s 38-yard catch.

Listenbee raced down the left sideline in one-on-one coverage midway through the first quarter, diving for the ball near the goal line.

The touchdown pass to Porter immediately followed a TCU interception deep in Bulldogs territory. Ranthony Texada grabbed the ball near the right sideline, but the ball popped loose when Texada was hit. Paul Dawson caught it in midair and was tackled at the Samford 19.

TCU added fourth-quarter touchdowns on a 7-yard run by Trevorris Johnson and a 2-yard pass to Listenbee from Matt Joeckel.
