Body horror
a horror film genre in which the main feature is the graphically depicted destruction or degeneration of a human body or bodies
Directors include David Cronenberg Cabin fever is a good example as we can see the human bodies experience a reaction where they all die in a very horrific way.
Comedy horrors
Combines elements of horror and comedy fiction Almost always inevitably crosses with black comedy Examples include scary movie, shaun of the dead and gremlins They all contain elements of horror movies such as gore and jump
scares but also make us laugh
Gothic horror
Some of the earliest horror movies were a cross of horror and gothic They include: castles, dungeons, ruined landscapes, magic and the
supernatural Examples include Dracula and Frankenstein
Psychological horror
These kinds of horrors rely on a charcaters fears, guilt, belief emotional instability and at times the supernatural to build the tension and further the plot
Examples include the ring and the exorcist The horror of these movies come from the reality of them.
Science fiction horror
Often deals with the paranormal but isn’t limited to mad scientists or the classic experiments going wrong.
These kinds of movies include aliens and other kinds of species that kill An example of a science fiction horror movie is alien.
Slasher horror films
This subgenre includes a lot of violence It usually includes serial killers with a particular weapon they use to kill
people They include themes of suspense and can often be built on crime Examples include Texas chainsaw massacre where the killer uses a Chainsaw as his weapon
Zombie horror films
Zombie horror films include corpses or people that have lost their minds and are unaware of the world around them
They mainly have two main goals which are to feed and to kill Examples include dawn of the dead
