Summary - Admitted Patients

• Increase in total patient numbers across all admitted patient

episodes (both acute and non-acute)

• The proportion of same-day episodes has increased by 22%

compared with the same quarter five years ago, whereas the

proportion of overnight episodes has increased by 12%

• Overall average length of stay (ALOS) unchanged at 3.6 days

compared with the same quarter last year

• Gradual reduction in acute overnight length of stay compared with

the same quarter last year (- 0.1 days) and the same quarter five

years ago (- 0.5 days)

• This has remained unchanged over the last five quarters

- Urgent surgery: 100% on time this quarter

- Semi-urgent surgery: 97% on time this quarter

- Non-urgent surgery: 95% on time this quarter

• 1% less surgeries compared with same quarter last year

- Increased by 3.5% compared with the same quarter two years ago

- Increased by 11% compared with the same quarter five years ago

• Median wait times for semi-urgent elective surgery has increased (+1 day)

and non-urgent decreased (-6 days) compared with the same quarter last

year

• Total ED visits have increased compared to the same quarter last year

• 85% of patients arriving at NSW EDs by ambulance had their care

transferred to hospital staff within 30 minutes

• 72% patients left the ED in four hours
