Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to take this opportunity to extend to you avery warm welcome to Maesteg Town Hall and to Maesteg Amateur OperaticSociety’s production of Hot MikadoA brief glance at the list of our past productions will show that we always tryto bring a wide variety of shows to our audiences and this year is no excep-tion.Selecting a suitable show is one of the most difficult tasks that our ProductionTeam and Society have to perform. “Hot Mikado” meant nothing to the major-ity of the company at first but within the first few weeks of rehearsals mostmembers were hooked and enjoying the challenge. “The Mikado” has beendescribed as being the most popular of the Victorian era and during the1920s there were several attempts in America to cash in on its success with“updated” versions such as “Crazy Mikado”, “Jazz Mikado” and “SwingMikado” – all of which failed dismally. In the 1930s however, “The HotMikado” was devised which become a resounding success. It was revived inthe 1980s and went on to become a huge hit both on Broadway and in theWest End.It has been a privilege to be the Chair of MAOS for a second year and I wouldlike to record my grateful thanks to the officers and everyone who has helpedmake this production possible and in particular our very dedicated and tal-ented Production Team. I would also like to extend the Society’s gratefulthanks to Robert Williams for making the set and the team involved in the de-sign and sourcing of materials. We hope that you will enjoy this radical re-arrangement of Gilbert and Sullivan’s perennial favourite. Prepare to see the“Mikado” like you’ve never seen it before! “Rock, Blues and Jazz” – I hearyou say “it can’t be G & S” – oh but it is!MAOS is delighted to announce that we are one of the Societies that havebeen given permission to perform Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” next year.If anyone would like to take part in this exciting show we would be delightedto hear from you. It is being performed at Maesteg Town Hall during October2010 and rehearsals will start in the New Year.As always, we greatly appreciate and thank you all for your continued supportand for your loyalty. Without you our efforts would be meaningless.
