Hotel Transylvania 2 - The entire lovable crew is back for this sequel (plus a few extra characters). Mavis and Johnny are in wedded bliss when they surprise Dracula with the news that he’s going to be a “Vamp-pa”. Excitement ensues and after Dennis is born, the whole family begins to wonder if the half-human, half-vampire boy would be better off growing up in monster-filled Transylvania or in a “normal” human place. While the boy nears his fifth birthday, Drac fears that Dennis will never get his fangs and that Mavis will take Dennis away to grow up somewhere in California with Johnny’s family. In an attempt to speed up the process Drac takes Dennis on a trip to see how “real” monsters act. However, the result did not come exactly as planned. This hour and a half long PG-rated animation was humorous enough to entertain young children however, there was one part in the movie that I thought was a tad inappropriate in reference to a wig “looking like my grandma’s boobs.” I use those quotes exactly. This animation has many talented and well-known voices such as Selena Gomez, Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Steve Buscemi. I recommend this to young families however; there is a part at the end with huge, frightening looking bats which may frighten younger children. I give this movie a 4 out of 5. Earth? Can he figure out how to get more food and water? Only time will tell. This movie is based on a book and sticks remarkably close to the story. Damon does an amazing job and this movie really does a great job at juxtaposing brevity and suspense. There is a quick nude shot of Matt from behind as we see how skinny he has gotten due to the malnutrition. This movie does a great job at showing sacrifice and heroism and is a really good time. I would probably leave the smaller kids at home and make it a night out. I give it a 4.5 out of 5 tickets. Rated PG-13 for some strong language, injury images, and brief nudity.
