How to Recycle at Yard Waste Sites in 3 Easy Steps

Gather leaves, grass, brush and organics waste to be recycled. Detailed list of accepted items at RamseyRecycles.com.

Bring gathered yard waste and organics recycling to a Ramsey County drop-off site. See pages 2-3 for hours and materials accepted at each site.

Add waste to designated yard waste piles and organics recycling collection bin. If you have any questions, ask a site monitor.

Restrictions

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) QuarantineRamsey County is included in the EAB quarantine. Residents cannot transport trees, branches, mulch or hardwood firewood outside of the quarantine area.

To prevent the spread of EAB, please dispose of ash trees at a Ramsey County yard waste site (see pages 2-3).

Do not put propane tanks in the trash or recycling cart; they can cause an explosion.

Used Oil and Filter Collection Shed The Arden Hills collection site has a self-service used oil and filter collection shed that is open 24/7. Antifreeze is also accepted. The collection shed is located on the north side of the Ramsey County Public Works facility, off Ben Franklin Road.

Find FREE Paint and MoreVisit the Product Reuse Center at Ramsey County’s year-round household hazardous waste (HHW) collection site (page 6). Products are available on a first-come, first-served basis and selection will vary. Must be 18 years or older.

Types of Products Available

· Automotive products, oil, antifreeze, motor additives.

· Charcoal lighter fluid, camp stove fluid.

· Driveway and roof sealers.

· Fertilizers.

· Household cleaners, polishes, waxes.

· Paint and spray paint.

· Paint solvents, cleaners, turpentine, paint thinners.

· Wood stains, preservatives, oils, polyurethanes. Note: Items are not available at the mobile collection sites listed on pages 8-9.

Safe Disposal of Your Energy-Saving Light Bulbs Energy-saving light bulbs are good for the environment and your wallet, plus they can be recycled. Bring them to a Ramsey County HHW collection site (see pages 6-9) or check with a local hardware store.

Here are the types to recycle:

· Fluorescent bulbs of all shapes and sizes.

· High-intensity discharge lamps (HID).

· Neon lights of all shapes and sizes.

· LED lights of all shapes and sizes.

Incandescent light bulbs are safe to throw in the trash.

Did You Know? It’s illegal to throw fluorescent light bulbs in the trash because they contain mercury.

Recycle at Your Next Event Hosting a family, work or community gathering? Make it a green event! You can use your own recycling containers or borrow containers for free at RamseyRecycles.com.

Portable containers are collapsible, and come with custom signage and bags. Organics recycling containers are available, too.

Businesses Recycle More with BizRecyclingMost businesses in the Metro Area are required by state law to recycle. Fortunately, businesses of all sizes in Ramsey and Washington Counties can receive free help from BizRecycling to recycle more.

BizRecycling has given recycling grants to 500 businesses in the East Metro in the past four years. In addition to grants, BizRecycling has provided free on-site consultations with recycling experts to 2,000 businesses. In about 30 minutes, our recycling experts can help your business come up with a recycling plan that works for you.
