Active air conditioning is a standard configuration fortelecommunication shelters and it is the most efficient solutionwhen the heat to be dissipated is high and when commercial mainspower is normally available.
Control of the internal temperature is achieved by variousmethods which are selected according to the local environmentalconditions, the internal thermal load and the equipmenttemperature constraints. Omnishelter can provide its shelters with several different activeconditioning systems, such as: • ventilation systems • air conditioning units • heaters (for low temperature).
Most of the shelters for telecommunication systems use, as astandard solution, internal or external packaged air conditioningunits which combine the function of air conditioning units withthose of ventilation units, thus resulting in substantial reductionof internal space requirement, less maintenance and improvedoverall reliability. Of course, other types of air conditioning units can be selectedand supplied according to Customer specifications or to otheroperational constraints. Like all other electrical and electronic equipment installed in theshelters, equipment for climate control requires an integrated
management system which takes into account the operationalconditions and limits, and ensures the highest performance interms of fulfilment of the operational objectives relating totemperature, reliability and energy saving.
For the safest and most reliable operation, the managementsystem has to be properly integrated with all the other electricalsystems which are provided with the shelter, such as the powermanagement systems, the power distribution boards, thegrounding and the lighting systems, etc.
In case of mains power failure the active conditioning systems arenormally supported by battery-operated emergency fans enablingthe station to continue to operate. Where air conditioning is notnecessary, Omnishelter supplies ventilated shelters using lowvoltage, high reliability AC/DC fans which provide the necessaryair circulation to keep the internal temperature within given limits.
In order to guarantee the safe operation of the equipment,Omnishelter takes all possible measures to prevent the entranceof insects, dust, sand or other particles inside the shelters. Theexperience gained in supplying shelters world-wide, allowsOmnishelter to select and combine many different solutions inorder to guarantee the highest reliability and durability of thesystem.

HOUSING
Telecommunication and general electronic equipment normallyrequires carefully controlled climatic conditions when installedinside the shelter.
The passive conditioning system is based on the exploitation ofphysical phenomena such as thermal capacity, thermal isolationand heat transmission.
The passive conditioning system, suitably designed, is extremelyreliable and has an operational life span which is usually longerthan those obtainable with standard active conditioning systems. The use of passive conditioning shelters is possible in desert andother geographical areas where there are large thermal differencesbetween night and day.
The passive conditioning shelter is a must when the provision ofcommercial power is not currently available and power has to beproduced locally with expensive systems such as: • solar cells • aeolian generators • generating sets and where maintenance is difficult and expensive to carry out, such as in deserts or remote areas.
RESULTS The passive conditioning system allows total control of theinternal climatic conditions (temperature and humidity) resultingin: • significant reduction in operating costs • reduced maintenance • complete isolation of the interior from the external
environment • reduction of internal thermal oscillations • improved equipment life.
Omnishelter offers two different types of passive conditioning:• PICS - Passive Integral Conditioning System, which doesn'trequire any power supply for its operation. • PECS - Passive Enhanced Conditioning System, which allows anincrease in the overall efficiency of temperature control and canbe used when a very small portion of locally generated electricalpower (typically limited to a few watts) can be made available forthis purpose.
All the elements of the passive cooling system are housed in aseparate subsystem, structurally independent of the mainstructure, which can be packed and shipped separately withsubstantial savings in freight costs. As an additional advantage, the configuration of the passive cooling systems does not reducethe internal available space for the installation of otherequipment.

HOUSING
Omnishelter presents its range of modular shelters, i.e. shelterswhich are supplied completely unassembled for erection on site.
Modular shelters represent an effective alternative to standardmonolithic shelters when transportation costs have a high impacton the overall site costs, or when the access to a site is particularlydifficult thus making impossible the use of standardtransportation means. This is especially true in cases of roof-topinstallations where the positioning of a monolithic shelter can becarried out only by using special cranes, which are subject to manyrestrictions due to their impact on local traffic and installationcosts.
Thanks to their easy transportability in a knocked-downconfiguration, modular shelters can be placed on high buildingswithout the need for special installation methods andarrangements. In addition, their modular construction requires nohighly skilled installation personnel and greatly reduces the timerequired for their assembly.
For large-scale projects, Omnishelter provides specially designedbulk packaging for their modular shelters, which significantlyreduces the freight costs.
MATERIALS Omnishelter designs modular shelters in order to allow easy andquick erection on site. Aluminium extruded structural members, with Omnishelter proprietary design, are largely used in order toguarantee, after installation, the same degree of rigidity anddurability as that normally available for monolithic shelters. Modular shelters are available with a choice of panel coveringmaterials, such as aluminium, stainless steel or pre-paintedgalvanized steel.
WATERTIGHTNESS Watertightness, which is normally an important factor withstandard shelters, is important for modular shelters. By use offriction joints and sealing gaskets, Omnishelter is in a position toguarantee the highest degree of environmental protection andwatertightness for its range of modular shelters.
ACCESSORIESAll accessories and ancillary systems such as air conditioning, electrical fittings, grounding, power boards, management systems, etc., normally available for active and passive conditioningshelters, are available for modular shelters too.

HOUSING
Omnishelter has developed a complete range of outdoor cabinets& minishelters, designed to fully operate in extreme, severeenvironmental conditions.Cabinets & minishelters can be built by using various materialswith any necessary systems and accessories.
BTS COMPACT HOUSING Recently, Omnishelter has developed BTS Compact Housingswhich integrate many of the features of a typical BTS shelter withthe dimensions, easy of handling and transportability of a cabinet.
Thanks to their reduced size and light weight, BTS CompactHousings are especially suitable for roof-top cellular RBS. BTSCompact Housings are fitted with additional infrastructures, capable of accommodating simple antenna masts and cableladders.
Local communities and environmental protection organizationsare increasingly demanding that Telecom Operators minimise thevisual impact of telecommunications infrastructures such asshelters, masts, towers etc.
Omnishelter has designed and made available a wide selection ofoptions and accessories aimed at reducing the visual impact of itsshelters.
These options include: • special custom painting according to specified tints • external coverings with camouflaged surfaces • additional structures such as slanted roofs, sunshields, etc.
with coverings designed to be visually consistent withneighbouring buildings (or the surrounding environment).
A valid alternative to standard shelters greatly reducing visualimpact is represented by buried shelters, which are designed tooperate, with the same degree of reliability as standard shelters,at an under-ground level. Special arrangements, especially againstrisk of corrosion, are taken into consideration due to theparticular conditions in which a buried shelter has to operate.
