Houston Northwest Kappa Key Notes 2018-2019 Dearest Kappa Sisters , I would like to welcome you all and share this story with you! My grandmother had a button jar that I loved going through with my fingers. It wasnt just the texture of the buttons, but there were buttons in all color and sizes that had been snipped off outgrown or outdated clothing to be reused. Some were bright and shiny, some were leather, others were made of wood, while others were blingy with jewels encrusted in their shape or made of satin or velvet. It was easy to tell which ones were for ordinary clothing and which had come from a blouse or dress that had been worn for a special occasion. It was fun to imagine their individual potential as I sifted through that big jar of buttons. In many ways, KKG members are very much like the buttons in grandmother s button jar. We are as varied as the contents of that jar. We come from all ethnicities, in all shapes and sizes. Some of us are bright and shiny; others are more subdued. Some are clearly needed for fun and festive occasions; some blend in and could almost go unnoticed. Some are vintage, some are modern; some are similar to others, and some are in a class by themselves. It is the great diversity of our membership that is our strength: our buttonsmake us who we are. Each one of us has a unique gift, something special to offer to propel us forward. Together, we fill our organization with beauty and style, with personality and flair. KKG would not be just right without each member adorning the owl, the key and the fleur de lis. Like that special, but essential button, may we cherish each member s uniqueness, may we see potential and worth in each member, and may we support each other in the fabric of our lives. (This memory was inspired by the writings of Sheila Cruse,) We have some fun events planned for you to experience this year and look forward to seeing you as we renew acquaintances, create new mem- ories and enjoy the fellowship of days gone past. Houston Northwest Kappa Key Notes 2018-2019

Dearest Kappa Sisters , I would like to welcome you all and share this story with you!

My grandmother had a button jar that I loved going through with my fingers. It wasn’t just the texture of the buttons, but there were buttons in

all color and sizes that had been snipped off outgrown or outdated clothing to be reused. Some were bright and shiny, some were leather, others

were made of wood, while others were blingy with jewels encrusted in their shape or made of satin or velvet. It was easy to tell which ones were

for ordinary clothing and which had come from a blouse or dress that had been worn for a special occasion. It was fun to imagine their individual

potential as I sifted through that big jar of buttons.

In many ways, KKG members are very much like the buttons in grandmother’s button jar. We are as varied as the contents of that jar. We come

from all ethnicities, in all shapes and sizes. Some of us are bright and shiny; others are more subdued. Some are clearly needed for fun and

festive occasions; some blend in and could almost go unnoticed. Some are vintage, some are modern; some are similar to others, and some are

in a class by themselves.

It is the great diversity of our membership that is our strength: our “buttons” make us who we are. Each one of us has a unique gift, something

special to offer to propel us forward. Together, we fill our organization with beauty and style, with personality and flair. KKG would not be just

right without each member adorning the owl, the key and the fleur de lis.

Like that special, but essential button, may we cherish each member’s uniqueness, may we see potential and worth in each member, and may

we support each other in the fabric of our lives. (This memory was inspired by the writings of Sheila Cruse,)

We have some fun events planned for you to experience this year and look forward to seeing you as we renew acquaintances, create new mem-

ories and enjoy the fellowship of days gone past.

Loyally,

Kathy Cotton-Windham, President Houston NW Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association Gamma Omicron, University of Wyoming
