Research Proposal Karolina I. Pellot Ortiz

What are the effects of the thyroid in our memory and learning skills?

What?

Study the effects the thyroid gland has

on the brain and its ability to learn or

retain memory.

The thyroid gland is better known for its

effects on metabolism, but is responsible

for our entire body’s development.

The thyroid gland is responsible for a

great amount of the chemical processes

in our body.

Right Thyroid Gland

Larynx

Left Thyroid Gland

Trachea

What happens when these chemical processes do not have the necessary substances to function?

How does it affect the way we think and learn?

Why?

Not everybody knows the actual effects

that the thyroid gland has in our body.

It’s important to know how this gland

works and how what it produces affects

the function of our brain.

The brain is mysterious place, but

learning how other organs help it

function will give us an inside look to

how our minds truly work.

How?

Step 1: Acquire volunteers

Step 2: Divide into groups

Step 3: Record a series of questions to determine their state of health

Step 4: Perform tests that will determine their memory and learning capacity

Step 5: Gather the results and form the first conclusion

Hypothesis

Since the thyroid gland is responsible for the chemical reactions in

your body, including metabolism, it can have very powerful effects on

how our brain develops. When we do not get the required substances

to grow we slow down mentally and physically. If the thyroid gland

does not work properly our brain will then become “sluggish” which

means that our ability to retain memory and/or learn will have been

affected gravely. Making it harder for us to learn new things because

we are not capable of retaining certain information from our memory.
