HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL

GROUPS?

The genre for my music magazine is Indie pop, the genre is a mixture between the 'Independent' genre which aims to be extremely diverse and the 'pop' genre which is very cheerful, easy going and usually surrounded by a female dominated audience. The social group I aimed to target though my magazine and the choices I made was a female teen audience ranging the age 15+. I made sure when I was creating my magazine to keep my demographic in mind and create my magazine surrounded by teenage girls that listen to the genre indie pop’s interests.

For example I included artists names that I believed my demographic would be interested in, from the Indie/pop genre for example Best Coast that is an indie/pop group that tries to appeal to females through their music, I believed this would appeal to my audience greatly as they would recognise this group and therefore have more of an interest in my magazine.

Also, to attract my demographic I realised that teenage girls within this age group will primarily be interested in listening and downloading music. On my front page, I created a puff which advertised that my magazine would include 50 free songs. Teenage girls that are interested in Indie pop will be constantly going to music gigs and will want to keep up with new and current music, by advertising this it would add a great appeal to my magazine instantly. What girls in my sub

culture look like:

I made sure my model would appeal to my particular social group of females who listened to the indie pop genre age 15+ by firstly the way I dressed her, I knew teenage girls that listened to indie pop would be attracted to bight colours so I made sure to dress my model in a bright Hawaiian top, which is very modern and current with fashion. This shows that my model clearly reflects the indie pop genre and that I stuck closely to my colour scheme. The colours used in this shirt alongside the colours for my front cover all reflect a very feminine edgy pop look, which I was initially going for. Also, I posed my model in a certain way to appeal to my social group. I made sure my model looked very happy and friendly on the front cover to reflect a happy attitude amongst my magazine, which my audience could understand and relate to; my model’s pose gives my magazine a very light hearted feel.
