How does your media product represent particular social

groups

Age

• Our media product represents teenagers, although it is a flashback of the past, it shows that teens usually gang up on ‘nerdy’ people. In our opening sequence you see our main character Andy being chased by Bully 1 and Bully 2.

Nerdy Kids

• Our media product represents nerdy teens to have typical features such as wearing glasses and a tucked in shirt. It also represents them to be always picked on and bullied. Nerds are usually white and our original actor fit the profile, but since he kept cancelling on us the only other actor we could find was a black one. The typical behaviour of a nerd would be to be scared and helpless. We showed this through our opening sequence by having Andy run off scared straight away once confronted not being able to defend himself.

Hero

Although our main character is a nerd at first, heroes are typically seen to be strong and invincible and undefeatable. This is shown through the fact that Andy survives his attack. At the end we see Andy lying there and for a moment you think he's dead when his eye dramatically opens this tells us that he is somewhat strong and invincible.

Bullies

We made our bullies black because of the stereotypes that come with it. Our bullies were wearing big coats and were quite strongly built people. We struggled to find bullies that looked convincing enough but we thought that we did the best that we could with choosing actors that were within our sixth form. The typical behaviour of a bully is to always expect that someone is out to get you. In our opening sequence the bully straight away thinks there is a problem between him and Andy and straight away starts picking on him.

Location

Main character Andy's House-We decided to make the house and

neighbourhood middle class as that’s what is typical of the hero to live at in order to keep the disguise of them being a superhero, although at the beginning of our opening sequence the Andy is not yet a superhero and has just gained his powers.
