How does your media product

represent particular social

groups?

AgeTo represent age in my media product, I was careful with the models I used. I made sure that my models looked around the same age as my target group of teenagers and young adults, aged 16-30. I did this as the age group is commonly associated with the rap genre. By doing this, my main target audience may feel more targeted if they see someone who is around the same age as them on the front cover of my music magazine. My models wore clothing which are commonly worn by young adults with some nice jewellery to gain the attention of the aspirers. I tried to include social networking links on my pages as young people are more likely to spend time on them.

EthnicityThe representation of ethnicity in my media product can be seen throughout my pages. In my music magazine, I used a variety of models from different ethnicities to show the diversity of the rap genre in modern times today. This was a challenging representation as the rap genre is still predominantly black. I chose to do this to help broaden my target audience as many different ethnicities listen to the rap genre and I wanted to make sure they still felt targeted. Although my music magazine reinforces the common stereotype of gender as only young males are seen in my pages which may have limited the target audience as females are underrepresented.
