My Target Audience

Page 3: How does your media product represent particular social groups offical

My typical audience is a 15/34 year old, middle-class, male demographic; they love music and playing instruments. Being a musically devoted individual, my audience attend/ play gigs regularly and are extremely up-to-date with the music charts. His fashion trend is greatly influenced on indie and retro; therefore, apart from purchasing the latest CDs, he shops at ‘TOPSHOP’ and ‘URBAN OUTFITTERS’ to buy trendy clothing. On an average/casual day, he would be seen wearing skinny/ripped/ black jeans, a baggy t-shirt and a beanie hat. My demographic is getting paid an average income for their age (of around £17,000 per year) as they work in popular retailer shops (for example: River Island, Primark, Hollister, or well-known music shops); however, his big ambition is to make it in the music industry. In his spare time, my client would be gigging, jamming with band members, writing poetry and going to the gym. He is fit and active, however isn’t overly muscular. My customer is typically a white British male, non-devoted to any particular religion. He is confident when performing, however is reasonably timid when met in person. Furthermore, my client has been through heartache before, but his current status is now, on average, single. Finally, his music taste is indie/ pop music; his favourite being ‘Coldplay’, ‘Coasts’, and ‘Blink 182’.

front cover:

Puff

The puff is eye-catching to a younger demographic as they will genuinely believe that the magazine is the most successful brand

It is written in a Calligraphic font to make it look retro

and sound official

It is positioned in the top right hand corner (directly above the masthead) as it

will catch the eye of a musically passionate

demographicThe word ‘Ultimate’ makes the magazine sound as if it is a good value for money (which is important for a

younger, financially dependant demographic)

Similar to the puff on ‘MOJO’ magazine, as they are both written in similar style fonts, in the same colour, and they are both positioned around the masthead. The ‘MOJO’ magazine puff also gives off an official

and successful impression.

Masthead

The masthead is eye-catching to a younger

demographic as it is clear and simplistic

The masthead has a current and trendy style font, which will interest a

laid-back, youthful demographic

The colour of the masthead is black, over a white background. This

targets a male demographic, as the

colours are simple, bold and dramatic.

Similar to the Masthead on ‘MOJO’ magazine, as they are both written in a clear, bold and simplistic style of typography (targeting a male demographic). They both

contrast the black and white colours, but ‘MOJO’ magazine do this with a white masthead and black

background.

It is positioned behind the feature article photograph,

which will allow the audience to see the image more clearly. It makes the

magazine more recognisable, which will

interest a younger demographic as they will appreciate the trending

brand

Feature Article Photograph

The feature article photograph targets a

young and trendy demographic, as the

clothing on the artist looks inspirational and relatable. A younger audience would be more impressionable, and the rollers/ clothing

looks retro/ indie inspired (influential)

The feature article photograph will interest a

middle-class demographic, as the rollers indicate a

casual impression.

The image targets a younger, musically devoted

demographic as the bold make-up looks up-to-date and current. The serious

expression shows that she is serious and passionate

about music.

Similar to the Feature article Photograph on ‘MOJO’

magazine, as they both have bold/ striking make-up (to

indicate a younger demographic), and they both have a serious impression.

However, ‘MOJO’ magazine’s image is taken in a close-up shot (not a mid shot) so the audience

cannot see the clothing.

Cover-Lines

The artists on the Cover-Lines are written in a bold red colour, which makes them stand out from the

grey description. This will target a male demographic

as they are quite clear, masculine colours.

The Cover-Lines show a series of pop/ indie

musicians which are current in the charts at the moment. Like Sam Smith, the artists will appeal to a

younger, middle-class audience.

The Cover-Lines are positioned around the centred feature article

photograph. This would interest a younger, male

demographic as it is clear and simplistic. Also, it

would appeal to a musically passionate

audience as the artists will immediately stand out.

Similar to the Cover-Lines on ‘MOJO’ magazine, as they both are placed around the centred feature article photograph. Also, they both target a specific demographic through the

artists in the Cover-Lines. ‘MOJO’ magazine also uses a grey colouring for the description, but they colour the Cover-Lines

in white.

Page 9: How does your media product represent particular social groups offical

The plug quote will appeal to an audience who is not particular

devoted to any religions, as they value their music to be the most

important thing to them.

The plug quote is written in a grey colouring, which will target a male audience; the colour used is bold, simple

and masculine.

Plug Quote

The plug quote will appeal to a musically passionate demographic as they will

be able to relate. The word “music” is written in bold, which will instantly stand out to an audience who's

devoted to music.

Similar to the Plug Quote on ‘MOJO’ magazine, as they both highlight keywords to attract the musically passionate

audience; they have used “voice” and “weapon” to catch their demographic. Also, their typography is clear and

simplistic. ‘MOJO’ magazine has coloured the plug quote in blue, which is still considered a masculine colour.

The plug quote will target a younger demographic, as it appears clear and simple.

The typography is bold and easy to read. The simplistic

font will also interest a middle-class demographic.

Typography There is 2 different styles of

typography on the front cover, which adds an extra dimension. The 2 styles of font will interest a

younger audience as it looks current and up-to-date.

The overall typography will appeal to a younger, male demographic as it looks clear and simple. The

‘Arial’ style of font looks straightforward, easy to

understand, and approachable.

The size of font will interest a younger audience as it is clear and concise. The bold, simple

typography will appear immediately approachable to a

younger demographic.

Similar to the typography on ‘MOJO’ magazine, as they both appear clear and simplistic. ‘MOJO’ magazine is also

approachable, which will target a younger male demographic. In addition, ‘MOJO’ magazine uses two styles of font, which

makes the magazine appear current and trendy.

Description

The description in the Cover-Lines will appeal to a musically dedicated

demographic as they will be able to relate to the quotes.

The descriptions appear inspirational and

understandable; the musical audience will feel as if the

artists are on their wavelength.

The description is written in a grey colour, which will target a male

demographic. The current colouring will give off a bold and

masculine impression.

The description will appeal to a demographic of the ages 15-34 as it

appears informative and useful. The younger age group will appreciate the

preview and will be persuaded to read

further.

Similar to the Description on ‘MOJO’ magazine, as they both are written in grey colouring to attract a male demographic. They colour

the description in a different colour to the Cover-Lines (the artists

name in red and the description in grey). ‘MOJO’ magazine also uses

a couple of quotes which will relate to a musically passionate audience. In addition, the

description’s on the magazine appears informative and exciting, which makes the audience want to

read on.

Page 12: How does your media product represent particular social groups offical

The black, white and red colour scheme will target a male

demographic as the colours are stereotypically associated as

being masculine. The colours are bold, dramatic and eye-catching

Colour Schem

e

Similar to the Colour Scheme on ‘MOJO’ magazine, as they both target a male audience by using masculine colours; ‘MOJO’ magazine also uses: black, white and red for their

colour palette. The scheme comes across as extremely eccentric; however, the colours in ‘MOJO’ magazine look extremely serious compared to my trendy house-style.

The colour scheme will appeal to a demographic who are interested in

indie/pop music, as the combination of colours appear

retro and popular. The bold choice of colours suggest that the

magazine is going to be striking and eccentric.

The colour scheme will interest a younger, trendy demographic as it

appears to look current and eccentric. The combination of

colours suggest that the magazine will look stylish and

trend-setting.
