Spain and Portugal will be most affected within the EU by coming climate change.
The temperature in Europe has increased 0.95 degrees over the last 100 years. This increase has been greatest in the Iberian Peninsula and Western Russia.

Sierra Nevada selected for world climate change studies
The Park’s Observatorio de Cambio Global, in Sierra Nevada,has been selected by Unesco as one of ten sites in the world for its climate change studies. Temperatures are expected to rise by 2 degrees in the next 40 years with a fall in rainfall of 10%, reducing significantly the amount of snow with serious effects on the ski industry, irrigation and biodiversity. Pyrenean glaciers melting fast 2
The glaciers on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees are melting fast. Total surface area dropped from 1779 hectares in 1894 to 290 in 2000, representing a fall of 85% in of surface area. 52% of this occurred between 1980 and 2000 and 30% between 1991 and 2001.
