Terms for how objects interact with light.

• Opaque: Light is completely absorbed or reflected by object. No light passes through. E.g. a brick wall

• Transparent: all light is transmitted . The object is see-through. E.g.Glass.

• Translucent: Some light is transmitted, the rest is absorbed or reflected. Partially see through, like cellophane

• Incandescent: object emits/produces light due to heat. E.g. Light bulb, the sun.

• Luminous: Gives off light own light.• Reflective: Reflects light. If the object is smooth it will be

shiny like a mirror and show images. If the object is rough the light with be reflected diffusely like unpolished metal.

• Bioluminescence: A living thing that gives off its own light e.g. fireflies, squid etc.
