USING SERIFUSING SERIFUSING SERIFUSING SERIF

To start creating your page number, first of all click on the windows start menu, find programs,

Serif applications, choosing ‘Serif Draw Plus SE’ Once Serif has opened up, click on ‘Start new

drawing’ and select A4.

After your document is set, choose the tool on the left hand side ‘quick ellipse’

Click on the page and drag until a circular shape appears.

Quick Ellipse

Once you have your circle,

you can edit it by changing

the appearance and

thickness of it’s border.

To do this, open the drop

down menu on the top

right hand side of the

circle and select from

options. Repeat method

to change the form of

border.

You can also change the

colours, shown on the

following page.

As mentioned before, you can change the shades of colour in the page number by

selecting the RGB sliders on the left hand side of the page, and entering in each box the

number correspondent to your colour’s house style. Repeat this method when changing

the colour on number.

To add the page number select the Artistic Text Tool on the

left hand side of the page (just below quick elipse)

Place your cursor inside the circle, click down and drag

without letting it go to draw an A shape like shown on the

left.

Once you have done this, a text line will appear, type the

number you want once and it will appear in the side of your

previous A.

You can also change the font of your number by keeping it

highlighted and selecting from the font drop down menu

the font you like the most.

After your page number has been placed in the

right area of your circle and changed into your

chosen font, you can change the colour on it so

it follows your house style, by changing the

numbers on the RGB sliders.

You should then select the whole thing, and

group it, so you’re able to move, resize it and

save it all together.

You might find that when you

try and click outside the box

to select your page number,

the tool draws or does

something else.. To change

this, first click on the ‘pointer

tool’ , then place your cursor

anywhere around your circle,

and highlight the whole thing.

Your logo should then look

something like the bottom

image .

Click on the ‘Group’ tool.

Pointer Tool

Later on you will have to

‘Ungroup’ this to make

amendments, this is easily

done just by clicking on the

same tool again.

After you’re happy with your page number’s appearance and you want to save it, you must do it in two

ways: Firstly you must ‘Export’ it as an Image. This will let you use it in any document but you will not be

able to edit it anymore. That is why you must also save it as a Serif Document. This allows you to later

on add any changes, like the number it self, if you’re creating a publication with many pages, or the

colour, if you like your layout but you are using a different house style.

Export

Save as serif

Do NOT

change any

settings!

To change the digit on your page

after it’s been saved open the

Serif Document. (File, Open…

Select your document)

Press Ungroup (like shown on

previous page)

Highlight the number, delete

and type new

Group again, and export saving

method to have it as an image.

If you wish to have several page

numbers just repeat previous method

and after each one export.

If instead of changing the digit you

wish to change colours, repeat the

RGB number replacement method by

inserting your selected house style

colours.
