Today I’m going to be chatting to you about how to become a teenage designer
…you’re still at high school and you’re not able to study at college or university yet, so what can you do?
Have extreme PASSION, DETERMINATION and DRIVE to become a DESIGNER
develop your own style • get a sketch book, carry it around with you all
the time and sketch all your ideas
• collect fabric swatches, trims (lace, ribbon, etc.) attach them to your sketches – glue them in as it’s safer than using pins
• create a portfolio to store all your designs - you will need this when you decide to study when you’ve completed high
school

• make a really simple garment first like a skirt or easy pants• OR alter some clothes you already have:
…make a dress from some old curtains (as I did as a teenager)
…create a bikini from an old T shirt …turn your dad’s (if he doesn’t mind) old T shirt into a sexy mini dress…raid your mum’s (if she doesn’t mind) wardrobe and recycle some of
her clothes
