Check that you have the setting “Allow all devices to connect” listed in the first section.

If not, touch the words to change the selection, as shown below.

Open the Configure settings. Name your mobile phone’s Network SSID as something recognisable to you, remembering that this name will be broadcast to all devices within range (we would not suggest anything containing your name or ‘Avon’). One example, “dsm001”. Ensure the Security selection is WPA2 PSK. For the initial setup, use a very simple password, such as the one below. This will be changed later on, once a successful connection has been established between your devices. SAVE your new settings.

Open the list of Wireless Networks by double clicking the icon near the clock display (looks like a single monitor with radio waves). Refresh the list by clicking the option on the top left of the window. You should now see your mobile phone’s Network SSID appear.

Double click the name or click the Connect button. A prompt will appear for you to enter in the password (as displayed on phone).

You will see the status change to Connected. To confirm you are able to access the internet, open Internet Explorer and navigate to a webpage which is regularly updated each day, for example, Sydney Morning Herald or a News site like NineMSN.

You will also see there is now a ‘device’ listed under Connected Devices on your phone, which confirms the computer and phone have paired up and are actively communicating to each other.

Now that you have established a successful internet connection, you should change the password (AKA: “Network Key”) to something more personalised and complex. For example, child/pet’s name and swap some of the letters with numbers or symbols, such as a/A=@; s/S=5; o/O=0 (zero); l/L=1, just to name a few possibilities! Having a complex password will help to protect you and Avon from others gaining unauthorized access to your phone’s data and connection. Remember to SAVE the new password.

You will need to enter this new password in the computer’s wireless network details. A simple way to do this is, try navigating to a fresh webpage (then the computer will realise it does not have the new password so will not load the page). You will easily be able to enter the new password (“Network Key”) in the Wireless Networks List (see previous steps) which will reconnect the computer to the phone.

Once completed, you should find that the computer will automatically connect to the phone when you flick on the green switch in future. NOTE: Ensure to only have the WiFi Hotspot switched on when you are actively using it with the computer, and flick the green switch off when finished in order to safeguard against unauthorised access.
