How to create a company profile on the Builders Profile portal
About Builders Profile
Builders Profile (BP) collects and shares pre-qualification and governance information in a common
format across the construction industry. It allows sub-contractors to upload company information
and share it with main contractors using the system (e.g. Fusion). Those main contractors can then
assess and, if necessary, score the information provided. This supports better risk management
within the supply chain.
Whilst there is some tailoring of questions within BP, most questions asked are common to all main
contractors and sub-contractors. You might be familiar with many of these questions from PAS91,
ConstructionLine, RISQS and other pre-qualification systems and questionnaires.
It is free for sub-contractors to complete a single profile within BP and submit it to a specific main
contractor (e.g. Fusion). For a fee, the sub-contractor can create and store a BP profile and share it
with more than one main contractor.
Builders Profile and Fusion
Fusion is one of around 50 main contractors that use BP. Morgan Sindall and BAM Nuttall, who are
joint venture partners within Fusion, are also users.
Fusion uses BP as part of our process for identifying preferred bidders for a range of contracts. We
specifically ask potential suppliers to create a BP profile and share it with us, when we need them to
– for example in the tender documents for a specific procurement.
If Fusion ever need a BP profile of your business, and you have recently submitted one to Morgan
Sindall or BAM Nuttall, then it is unlikely that you will be asked to submit a new profile to us – we
would simply use the profile you submitted to one of our partners.
2 | 11 P a g e s
We do not suggest or request that any potential supplier submits a speculative BP profile to us.
Rather, potential suppliers should make sure that they are registered with CompeteFor and are
regularly checking email alerts and portal for our tender contract opportunities. Fusion JV advertises
all tender and contract opportunities within CompeteFor.
Why is Fusion JV using Builders Profile?
Fusion uses Builders Profile because two of our partners, Morgan Sindall and BAM Nuttall, do.
HS2 Ltd and other HS2 consortia might be using different systems to collect, review and assess
information from potential suppliers.
We understand how frustrating and resource intensive it can be to potential suppliers when they are
asked to provide similar information to different clients in different formats and at different times..
Unfortunately, because of the duties imposed by the Construction (Design and Management)
Regulations each dutyholder (e.g. Fusion) must undertake its own due diligence of its supply chain.
Overview of completing a BP profile
The process of completing a company profile within Builders Profile is not necessarily difficult. To
submit a full profile can be time consuming and requires access to an extensive range of company
information, documents and history.
It is technically possible to submit a profile without answering all the questions relevant to your
business, but doing this risks your company achieving a lower score in a tender process than it might
have done if all relevant questions were answered – and this could make the difference between
winning a contract or not.

5. When you have entered all information necessary to complete the account registration, you

where you are invited to select a ‘client’ (main contractor) whose Builders Profile

qualification questions specific to the rail industry. When you have answered all the
questions click ‘continue’ at the bottom of the page.

What happens next
If you were asked to submit a BP profile as part of a tender process, your profile will be:
Reviewed by specialists within Fusion
Scored against a pre-determined scoring framework
The total score will be included within a balanced scorecard approach to contract award.
You might be asked a question of clarification about one or more of your answers.
If you chose not to answer any particular question, please do not assume that you will be chased for
an answer to that question. Not answering it might just result in lost points during the tender
process.
