Tennyson, Lewis Carroll, and Samuel Beckett, and is preparing a study of Edward Lear for the ‘Writers and Their Work’ series (pub. Northcote House and the British Council).

Anna Barton is lecturer in Nineteenth-Century Literature at the University of Sheffield. She is the author of a variety of work on Victorian poetry, including studies of Alfred Tennyson and Edward Lear.

Charles Lewsen is an actor and Edward Lear scholar. He has toured widely in the UK and abroad with his solo theatre piece, How Pleasant to Know Mr. Lear. He is the first to study the diary record of Lear’s seizures.

Poet in the City invites you to come and celebrate the genius and imagination of artist, author and poet Edward Lear. Famed for his nonsense poetry, prose and limericks, Lear continues to inspire and delight us with words and images that go far beyond the ordinary.

In his bicentenary year, Poet in the City is proud to celebrate the unique and timeless talents of Edward Lear.

Michael Rosen is a broadcaster, children’s novelist and poet and the author of 140 books. He was appointed as the fifth Children’s Laureate in June 2007, and held this honour until 2009. He appears regularly on Radio 4.

James Williams is Lecturer in English at Jesus and Brasenose Colleges, University of Oxford, and Edna J. Harvey Fellow in Printing and Graphic Arts 2012-23 at the Houghton Library, Harvard University. He is the author of articles on
