Your plan

• Have you implemented it ?• Have you attended the

lectures regularly ?• Have you participated in the

class actively ?• Have you studied regularly ?• If so, you have already

passed the exams • There is no better way than

the above method

• Some practical study techniques– Read the notes fast and combine/ visualize

the knowledge you got through the lectures– Read the notes with care and underline or

highlight the important areas– Make a short note based on what you have

understood– Make mind maps as to your short notes– Make Acronyms for ease of memory

• Read out your short note silently • Read your short note as if you are

delivering a lecture and record it onto your phone or a digital recorder

• Play the recorded when you are relaxing to have it like a background music

• Use you as your own lecturer

• Do not try to over study an area that you cannot really understand well.

• You always a have a choice and you will not fail just because you do not understand one topic or a module.

• Try and do well in the areas that you like most

• If exams are held in a different place than the place you go for lectures, find out the place in advance

• Get all the pens, pencils etc ready well in advance• Get your dress ready before the exam day• Never study till late night just before the exam day• Relax and go to the exam hall early• Plan to go early for the exam

• Jot down ideas as they come to you. While you are answering one question, information about another may suddenly occur to you.

• Jot it down them somewhere because when you come to that question perhaps an hour later, you may have forgotten it.

Page 13: How to get through any exam by Maxwell Ranasinghe

• Don't leave any question unanswered. If you are short of time, answer in point form. Remember, you can only be marked on the answers you give.

Page 14: How to get through any exam by Maxwell Ranasinghe

• Never leave the room early. If you have time at the end, go over your work, add information (eg in the margin). You can't return if you suddenly remember a fact after you have left. Certain examiners mark the time on paper if you leave early.

Page 15: How to get through any exam by Maxwell Ranasinghe

• Do not spend too long on multiple choice questions. With multiple choice questions it is best to cover the answers and work out your own before looking at the choices on paper. If you can't answer the question come back to it later - have a guess.

Page 16: How to get through any exam by Maxwell Ranasinghe

• Never omit an entire question. No matter how well you answer other questions, you must leave time for all questions –

• a perfect answer can still only earn a certain number of marks.

• If you write nothing, you can't receive any marks and you have lost all your marks for a particular question. Write something - it may at least give you a few points.

Page 17: How to get through any exam by Maxwell Ranasinghe

- Get clarifications from invigilators– If you have any ambiguity as to questions you may

get clarifications– Check again that you have written the correct

Index Number– Check that you have answered the required

number of questions from different parts of the exam paper

Page 18: How to get through any exam by Maxwell Ranasinghe

• Do not discuss much about the answers you wrote with others after the exam

• Never give up just because you think that you did not do well

• Be positive• Lets get on with the next paper
