Description:
This brief describes the basic steps of getting your own BuddyPress site and lists some of the recommended plugins that we use for our ESL school in Melbourne, Australia. There's also a technical 79-minute video walk-through presented by Boone Gorges on setting up a basic BuddyPress site at http://wordpress.tv/2011/06/29/boone-gorges-buddypress-pt-2/

To get up and running: 1. ask your existing webhost to set up WordPress (or DIY from http://wordpress.org/ ) 2. Head to your "Plugins → Add New" menu and install BuddyPress. 3. Activate the bundled theme, or any other BuddyPress compatible WordPress theme. Plugins we are using on H-M BuddyPress and that I recommend: BP Disable Activation - Disables the requirement for users to activate by email on a standalone WP install with BuddyPress. WP Hide Dashboard - A simple plugin that removes the Dashboard menu, the Personal Options section and the Help link on the Profile page, hides the Dashboard links in the admin bar menu (if activated), and prevents Dashboard access to users assigned to the Subscriber role. Useful if you allow your subscribers to edit their own profiles, but don't want them wandering around your WordPress admin section. [email protected] @vfowler SMS my mobile: 0412 348 027
