I have decided to use Adobe Photoshop to create my film poster. This is because I know how to use the software and feel that this is the best programme to use to create a successful film poster. Firstly I opened a blank document in Photoshop. This is the canvas that I will work on. Next, I filled in the blank page with black. I used the paint bucket tool to complete this task. This is now my base layer for my film poster. I then dragged and dropped my main image onto the black document. I used the select tool to drag it from the open document where it was then holding down the left side on the mouse, dragged it over and into the document I'm using. Next I dragged another image that I may use onto the same document. This is so all of the images I am considering to use are in one place. This allows me to save it as one document rather than several different ones. Again I have dragged another image onto the same document. This is so I can manipulate the images together to create my film poster. I have added them in as layers so I can manipulate them I have moved the images around so they are in a suitable order for me to access them. I have then used the ‘Lighten’ tool to double expose the branch image over the face. This allows the two images to merge together so they look I have used the eraser tool to rub away the areas that I didn’t want, this included erasing some of the branches so they didn’t cover the main characters face. Next I used the rubber tool and went onto the wall layer, the image that shows at the bottom of the poster. I used the rubber tool to fade it into the black background

I have added them in as layers so I can manipulate them individually before blending them together.

I have moved the images around so they are in a suitable order for me to access them. I have then used the ‘Lighten’ tool to double expose the branch image over the face. This allows the two images to merge together so they look like one.

I have used the eraser tool to rub away the areas that I didn’t want, this included erasing some of the branches so they didn’t cover the main characters face.

Next I used the rubber tool and went onto the wall layer, the image that shows at the bottom of the poster. I used the rubber tool to fade it into the black background behind it.

I have used the text tool to add in the first piece of text onto my film poster. This was the website which I placed at the bottom of the poster, as in my final design.

Next I added in the release date. I have placed it at the bottom of the film poster as in my design. It is in a slightly bigger font size compared to the website as it is more important than the website.

This is the title of the film. I have placed it in the centre of the page so it is clear to the audience that this is the title. It is also the biggest font on the poster which also indicates that it is the title of the film.

I have added in the tag line above the title. This is so it leads into the title when the audience read it. I have currently left it in white but may change this later on as it is slightly difficult to read.

Next I added in the certificate rating just below the title. I have made it quite small as it is extra detail for the audience and is not necessarily the key information I want to convey from this poster.

I have now added in the first actors name at the top left of the poster. I did this by using the text tool and typing in her name.

Then I added in the second name on the top right hand corner of the film poster. This is because they are the two main characters in the film.

I have added in the award at the top of the page. This is because it works well there and is where it was placed in my design.

Next, I added in the stars in by using the shape tool and selecting the star feature. I held down ‘shift’ when drawing the star so it created the shape that I wanted.

When adding in the first star, I changed the size so it fitted into the space. I also filled the star in white so it is bold and stands out.

I have duplicated the first star to create a second one then lined it up to match the first one.

I have now duplicated the star and lined up star three to be on the same level as the other two.

Again, I have duplicated a star to create the fourth star. I have lined it up so it is level with the already existing stars.

I have added in the fifth and final star to create the rating for my film. I have made sure they are all lined up and have moved them slightly so they fit better on the page.

I have now added in who the review is by. I used the text box to type ‘EMPIRE’ onto the film poster.

Next I have written out the credit block for the film poster. I wrote it out on Microsoft PowerPoint.

I then added in ‘A Film By’ so the directors of the films names could be added in. This is so it adds extra information for the audience.

I then added in the ‘StudioCanal’ logo as this is the distribution company we used for our film trailer.

I have looked at existing credit blocks on film posters and have also used a template image to help me correctly create my own credit block.

I then chose to use the font ‘Agency FB’ for my credit block. This is because it best resembles the font used on an existing credit block.

Next I saved the credit block as a PNG file then inserted it into Photoshop. I used this file type so no background was attached to the text. If I had it as a JPEG file, there would have been an unwanted background.

Then I added in our production company logo. I used the ‘Show Transform Tools’ to resize the image to what I wanted it to be.
