4 STEPS APPROACH TO DEFINE THE REFERENCE

Business Value Analysis

Understanding current business

priorities and how to achieve them

through introduction of IT

innovations

Technology Architecture

Assessment

Confirm adequacy of the used

technologies to identified business

priorities, identify and select new

technologies where required

Reference Architecture Definition

Define reference architecture for

implementation of selected

applications, platforms or

technologies as part of

organizations landscape

Proof of Concept Execution

Execute well defined PoCs to clarify

uncertain area’s for decision making

Build Architecture Runway – provides the necessary technical basis for developing

business initiatives and implementing new capabilities

• Identify business priorities and desired

outcomes

• Document required capabilities to

achieve those needs

• Analyze as-is and to-be maturity of

the capabilities

• Identify capability gaps

• Identify curriculum to fill gaps

Intelligent Cloud Planning (ICP) Tool - Facilitates assessing applications to determine

their cloud deployment and service models and degree of fit for target clouds

Accenture Advanced Architecture Assessment (A4) is an architecture assessment tool

developed by Accenture based on global architecture assessment experience to support

execution of architecture assessment studies in a structured manner.

Cloud Migration Toolkit - CMT is tool built by Accenture to parse through java codebase

to analyze its existing architecture and implementation and improvement points for a

specific cloud platform solution.

Legacy2Cloud Tool - L2C is a natural specialization of our Language Migration service

which uses enhancements of the Blu Age tooling that focus on cloud application

infrastructure as the target for modernized applications

Reference Architecture Repository – Is a collection of 200+ Accenture proprietary

reference architectures on broad range of technologies and vendor product

implementations.

The A4 Assets: A4 Methodology & Guide

• The A4 Methodology describes how to conduct in-depth architectural assessments

– ranging from single-system detailed technical reviews to enterprise architecture-level holistic systems level reviews;

– the A4 Guide presents the A4 Methodology, and describes how to execute the tasks in each of its 6 phases;

– the A4 Guide and Methodology have been developed leveraging Accenture’s extensive Assessment experience, and integrate leading-edge practices and techniques.

AREAS OF CONCERN

Product Innovation & Growth

• Additional product innovations/enhancements or changes in business requirements can be incorporated with moderate to significant cost/effort.

Speed to Market

• Dissatisfaction in terms of overall speed to market. Many applications maintaining pace

or just beating expectations.

Business Functionality

• Inefficiencies identified with current reporting capabilities, integration with other systems

and completeness of the set of functions/features that are provided by the application for current business requirements ,

Overall Assessment

• Number of applications do not meet current or future business requirements.

Key Findings

Results of based Application Health Assessment surveys

conducted on Global and Regional Applications

ILLUSTRATIVECLIENT EXAMPLE

• Conduct further analysis on Application 65 to determine replacement strategy

• Conduct further analysis on Applications 5, 45 and 66 to determine whether a replacement strategy is required based on meeting business requirements, adding business value, driving lower cost of ownership and reducing IT Risk

Technical Adequacy

Technical vs. Functional Adequacy

Long TermInadequate Short Term Strategic

Inadequate: Applications do not meet the current needs from a technical and functional perspective. Recommend further due diligence efforts start immediately to confirm the disposition and strategy moving forward.

Short Term: Applications will support the needs of the client over the next 1 to 2 years only. Recommend further due diligence efforts start in the near term to determine the disposition and strategy moving forward.

Long Term : Typically means that the application will support the needs of the client over the next 3 to 5 years. Further action may be required to incorporate functional enhancements as needed in order to retire/decommission other applications.

Strategic : Applications meet the criteria to be considered strategic from a technical and functional perspective . Typically do not require any further actions unless functional enhancements are needed in order to retire/decommission other applications.

?WHY?

Competing with agility and speed is

enabled by IT demonstrating elasticity

in scaling to business demands and

volumes along with being able to

maintain requisite levels of resilience ? ?HOW?

• Deployment on virtualized workloads

with predictive monitoring

capabilities

• Leverage re-hosting middleware for

minimizing impact (e.g. Mainframe)

• Remediation and re-testing of

applications for compatibility

WHAT?

• Unlocking dependencies on

niche/specialized hardware

• Pooling of resources that are

dynamically allocated across

platform

• Simplification, improved availability

and performance

?WHY?

As a “quick win”, harvesting legacy

estates in a non-intrusive manner is a

key success factor for acceleration of

business innovations ? ?HOW?

• An integration platform as the glue

that enables legacy systems to

interoperate in a connected

environment

• Obtaining secure and controlled

access to data and components that

reside on the legacy platform

WHAT?

• An effective mix of new, high-value

digital, cloud platforms with the

legacy estate as the core foundation

• Accessibility to legacy components

and data through next generation

technologies i.e. Omni Channel,

Analytics, BPM, Cloud etc.

Evolutionary replacement of obsolete applications, tiers, components or technologies

with “fit for purpose” Cloud, Mobile, API first platforms

?HOW?

1. Re-factor monolithic platforms into components and layers

2. Replace proprietary components with New IT, COTS or SaaS

solutions and replace brittle components with new custom

build alternatives.

3. Conversion from commercial stacks to open source.

WHAT?

1. Replace obsolete tiers or

functionality with “state of

art” technologies.

2. Removal of end of life

assets while managing

impacts and dependencies
