How to install PowerChute Network Shutdown 3 0 1 onNetwork Shutdown 3.0.1 on

VMware vMA 5.0

Basic knowledge of Linux commands and Linux administration is needed before user should attempt the installation of the software.

PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS) 3.0.1 is required.

PowerChute Network Shutdown requires VMware Infrastructure Management Assistant (vMA) 5.0 install on the VMware ESXi host. if you need help installing vMA please contact VMware support or review KBase document FA159777

The vMA client requires AMD Opteron, Rev E or later CPU or Intel processors with EM64T and VT support

You will need VMware vSphere Client installed on your desktop / laptop to log into the ESXi host system. Review KBase document FA159775 for vSphere Client installation instructions or contact VMware support.

Communications ports TCP 3052, 6547, 80 and UDP port 3052 need to be open on the network.

Note: vMA 5.0 is delivered with the firewall inactive.

Install PowerChute Network Shutdown 3.0.1 on vMA 5.0

Note: if installing from CD review pages 56 6356 - 63

If the install files were downloaded from APC web site you will need to copy the files to atemporary directory to be uncompressed before the program can be installed See FA159776 fortemporary directory to be uncompressed before the program can be installed. See FA159776 for instruction on how to copy file to the vMA.

Assuming you copied the downloaded files to /opt/temp the commands arecd /opt/temp

d i 301ESXi t

Schneider Electric 11- IT Business- SmartWare Tiger Team Leader

sudo gunzip pcns301ESXi.tar.gzsudo tar –xf pcns301ESXi.tarThere will now be a new directory named ESXi created in /opt/temp

After uncompress the file change directory to /opt/temp/ESXi (caution Linux is case sensitive)Assuming you are still in the /opt/temp directory the commands arecd ESXils –la (to view the contents of the directory)

Schneider Electric 12- IT Business- SmartWare Tiger Team Leader

After running the command ls – la to view the contents of the directory you need change the permissions of the file install_en.sh to make it executable. The command issudo chmod 777 install en sh (en indicates the English version)

●The first time logging into PCNS the configuration wizard is displa ed a tomaticall This can occ r after a reg lar install or adisplayed automatically. This can occur after a regular install or a silent install which failed to register PCNS with a Network Management Card.

●Post install, the user will be redirected to the PCNS web user interface. If PCNS has not previously been configured, the user will be automatically logged in and directed to configure PCNS to ensure server protection. Once the first time wizard completes, the session ends and the user will be redirected to the login screen.

● If PCNS has been configured by this wizard or by a successful registration during a silent install, a visitor to the PCNS web user interface will be welcomed by the log in screen.

Single-UPS Configuration

In a Single UPS configuration h t f iIn a Single-UPS configuration, each computer server or group of servers is protected by a single UPS. That is, each server has one PCNS agent communicating with a single NMC installed on a UPS.

Supported UPS devices: The entire Smart-UPS range of UPS devices, including Smart-UPS VT and MGE Galaxy 3500 1- and 3-phase, Galaxy 7000, Galaxy 300; the Symmetra 1-Phase and 3-Phase, the Symmetra PX, and the Sil DP3500E d SilSilcon DP3500E and Silcon.

Schneider Electric 32- IT Business- SmartWare Tiger Team Leader

Redundant Configuration

In a Redundant-UPS Configuration, PowerChute Network Shutdown recognizes a group of either two or three UPS’s as a single UPS. In this configuration, one PowerChute Network Shutdown Agent on a server communicates with two or three NMCs (depending on the number of UPS’s in the configuration). Typically, the servers have multiple (dual or triple) power cords. Each UPS has its own NMC, which has a unique IP address. In addition all the NMCs use the same HTTP port and the same administratoraddition, all the NMCs use the same HTTP port and the same administrator user name, password, and authentication phrase.

Each UPS has the capacity to supply power to the load on its own. The first UPS id ll h f h l d h ddi i l UPS( )UPS provides all the power for the load, the additional UPS(s) act as reserve. When the first UPS in unable to supply power, the server switches over to take power from the next UPS. As a result, if one of the UPS’s goes down, for whatever reason, the other UPS(s) can continue to supply power to the loadwhatever reason, the other UPS(s) can continue to supply power to the load and therefore provide redundancy between UPS’s. PowerChute Network Shutdown recognizes that the UPS’s are set-up in a Redundant-UPS configuration and listens to all the UPS NMCs for a shutdown command.

Parallel Configurations

In a Parallel-UPS Configuration, two or more UPS’s (up to nine dependingIn a Parallel UPS Configuration, two or more UPS s (up to nine depending on the model) support the load. Each UPS does not need to be capable of supporting the load on its own as the combined output of all UPS’s in the configuration share the load. However, depending on the size of the load there
