How to Lay Turf
Here is our quick turf laying guide…
It really is easy!

Step One
Preparing the ground,
you will need to remove
any old turf (if present)
do this by digging it off or
hire a turf cutter to
remove the old turf.

Step Two
Once you have removed the turf you will need to dig over the
soil to break it up & aerate it.
Dig the topsoil over to a depth of about 4 to 6 inches.

Step Three
Now you need to rake out any lumps & bumps to create a nice level surface. Add fresh topsoil or soil improver if the soil is poor or if levels need raising.
When you have finished raking & levelling you should firm up the area by either rolling lightly or walking all over the area and then give it a final rake. (you should just leave a slight indentation in the topsoil when you walk on it (say 1cm depth).

Step Four
Now your ready to order your turf, measure the area you wish to turf in meters and calculate the area in square meters (m2) or use a turf calculator
http://www.turfgrowers.co.uk/turf-calculator) to work out how many rolls of turf you need.

Laying the Turf
Lay your turf within 24h hours of delivery.
Start at the far end of the area you wish to cover and roll out the turf rolls end to end (work in straight lines), give the area you are working on a quick rake to level it out before you lay each roll. Remember to stagger the joints like brick work. “If you need to make cuts use an
old knife or a good spade or turf edger to cut the rolls to shape”

Now give your new lawn a good soaking and water it daily for the first 10 days.
Try to keep off the lawn for the first couple of weeks, give it its first light mow when it gets to about 3 to 4 inches long.
Enjoy your new lawn!
