How To Measure Your Custom Window

o Measuring custom draperies can seem a little daunting
o Throughout you will find basic measuring tips to help you through this process.
Measuring Tips
o Every window size is different, so measuring correctly for custom window treatment sizes offers the ability to cover your window perfectly!
o Decide where your rods will be placedo Inside your windowo On the window trimo Extended beyond the trim and window opening
o Based on above, decide brackets location o Measure the width of the area between
brackets

Measuring tips for all
drapery and valance styles.
o Simple Valances:o Rod pocket window valanceo Mounted on either a 2 ½”
flat rod, a 1” single or a 1” double rod.
o For valance mounted over
drapery panels:o Outside valance rod must
clear the inside rod projection- 5 1/2"

o Rods have varying rod projectionso Number of inches rod
projects from the wall
o Round measurement up to nearest whole numbero Typically mounted 2" to
5" above window frameo 1" to 4" beyond widow
frame width

o Calculating width o add your projections
into your rod face width
o Example:o Face width is 60”o Projection is 3”o Add 6” to your face
width of 60” o You would order a 66”
width for your valance.

Drapery Panels
Rod Pocket Panels
o Typically used on windows for decorative purposes only.
o Does not require a perfect fit
o For average size window widths, you will only need a 2-width pair - 2 panels at 50” in width each for a total of 100”.
Grommet and Flat Panels
o Very simplistic treatment and has a contemporary look
o Rod projection is not necessary
o Take your rod face width and multiply by 1 ½ or 2 to get your total width
