Are you prepared to negotiate a job offer? LinkedIn research shows 42 percent of professionals in the United States are uncomfortable negotiating.  The study also shows that many of LinkedIn’s U.S. members (39 percent) report feeling anxious about negotiation, more so than participants from other countries do.

Steps to better negotiations:

1.Do your homework- Decide what industry(s) you want to work in and which ones you are qualified for.  Be ready for anything.

2.Remember your unique skills when developing your negotiation strategy.

Before you negotiate, be prepared

1. Have 3rd party research based on the position you are seeking that matches your skills and experience.  

2. Read and understand the documents that the company has provided you. Get help to understand the terms and conditions of employment if needed.

Negotiating your golden parachute

1.  A golden parachute is a term for pay-packagesfor high-level executives whose positions afford them the chance to negotiate a bail-out for themselves in the chance that their company is merged, sold or hostilely taken over.  

2. Whether you’re already an executive or just aspiring to be one, it’s never too early to begin studying the art of negotiating executive compensation.

3.  Pick your perks-In your research, don’t neglect to find out about the typical perks and benefits associated with the job for which you are interviewing.

4.  In addition, executives often receive additional or supplemental benefits; focus on those that are important to you and relevant to your job.

Pick the best employers 

Research on what comparable employers are paying for comparable people doing comparable jobs – is only part of the job of valuing your talent.
