Begin in January
Class must be blocked class to offer time at facility
Morning is better. My students attend 9:30-12:00 (after lunch)
Clinicals - 2 days a week
Allows for integration of most of BI Curriculum and preparedness for internship
Creating an Advisory Panel
Assess industry in close proximity to your school
Meet with Community Outreach, Volunteer Coordinators, Managers Talent Development Services
Finding the right person is imperative
Send letter of interest to introduce yourself and the program - email preferred

Agenda: program standards, transportation, basic training prior to entering facilities, uniforms, liability insurance (should be provided by the school) attendance and behavior

How to Make the Internship Appealing to Industry
You make it easier for them by providing some of the training in your classroom
Address important Policies and Procedures specific to the industry
HIPAA, Infection Control, Hand-washing, Safety, Careers, Vital Signs, CPR, etc.
Many organizations have online orientation and students can access them
Have students complete a resume, set up interviews - demonstrates professionalism
Internship
Establish small attainable goals
Initiate 2 internships per year
Rotate students in different departments to expose them to multiple careers in health industry
Role of the students is to observe health care in action
No filing, paperwork, cleaning if possible. The goal is for the students to be involved in observation of patient care

TB Test – PPD
Hospitals require 2 test within one month of each other prior to entering
If a positive result – chest x-ray to clear
Record of Immunizations
Different facilities have different requirements
Flu shots required this year
