How to Scan for Web Pages and Email This tutorial helps you scan and create small files which display well on computer screens, but do not print out very well. The quality will be equivalent to most of the things printed off the web. These files can easily be saved onto a floppy disk and or sent over email. The main applications for this type of scanning are PowerPoint, email, and web pages.

Prepare to Scan

1. Place item(s) face down in the scanner.

2. Open Photoshop in the Start Menu in the lower left corner of your computer screen.

3. Click on the File tab in the upper-left corner of Photoshop and move your mouse down the menu list to Import. Another menu will appear with a list of scanners; select HP Scanjet 4570c/5500c #2…

8. Look over the menu on the right side of the screen. You can adjust the size and decide the

type of file your image will be saved as.

Figure 4. Save for Web details. 1: Image format, 2: Quality level, 3: Image size, 4: Apply.

9. The most appropriate format for a scanned image is JPEG which you can select under the Settings portion of the menu (Figure 4: Item 1).

10. You may also adjust the quality of the image, using a scale of 0 to 100 (Figure 4: Item 2). The higher the image quality, the larger the image. When you change this value, the image on the left is updated to reflect the quality selected. For most purposes, the default value of 60 is appropriate.

11. A good image size is 700 pixels for the longest edge of your image. Simply change Width or Height (whichever one is larger) to 700 under the New Size portion of the menu (Figure 4: Item 3). You must click on Apply (Figure 4: Item 4) just below the size menu to complete the change. If you want a smaller image, you can make this value smaller.

12. Now Click on Save at the top of the menu.
