How to setup SSID with VLAN in AP mode, and work with GS-5424PLG?

Network Toplogy

1. We suggest configuring the IP address of Edimax Pro AP as static IP address. For

example, it is 192.168.2.6 here.

2. Please configure Laptop IP address as 192.168.2.x. For example, it is 192.168.2.30

here.

3. The wireless adapter connected to Edimax_10 will obtain IP address from router

A; the wireless adapter connected Edimax_11 will obtain IP address from router

B.

4. The switch is GS-5424PLG.

5. Both Routers (A/B) are VLAN unaware devices.

Configuration Steps on Edimax Pro AP

1. Use laptop to connect to the GS-5424PLG Port 24 using cable.

2. Power on Edimax Pro AP, and connect to GS-5424PLG Port 7.

3. Open web browser, type 192.168.2.6 on the address bar, and press “Enter”.

4. The default username / password is admin / 1234

5. Click Wireless Settings >> Basic at 2.4GHz 11bgn, and configure the followings.

a. Select Enable SSID number as 2.

b. Configure SSID1 as EDIMAX-10, and VLAN ID as 10.

c. Click Apply, and click Continue.

Please note, we use 2.4GHz for the demonstration. If you would like to configure

5GHz, please go to Wireless >> Basic at 5GHz 11ac 11an, and do the same steps.

6. Click Security, and configure the followings.

a. Configure Authentication Method as WPA-PSK.

b. Configure Pre-shared Key as 1234567890.

c. Click Apply, and click Continue.

7. Configure the followings.

a. Change SSID to EDIMAX-11.

b. Configure Authentication Method as WPA-PSK.

c. Configure Pre-shared Key as 1234567890.

d. Click Apply, and click Continue.

8. Click Network Settings >> VLAN, and configure the followings.

a. Configure LAN1 as Tagged port.

b. Configured Management VLAN – VLAN ID as 11. Management ID means only

the device with VLAN ID 11 via cable or wireless is able to login the web

management of Edimax Pro AP. For example, we configure it as 11 here. So the

device connected to Edimax-11, or the device with VLAN 11 connected to

Edimax Pro AP via cable are able to access the web management of Edimax Pro

AP.

c. Click Apply, and click Apply.

Configuration Steps on GS-6424PLG

1. Open web browser on Laptop, and type 192.168.2.1 on the address bar.

The default IP address of GS-5424PLG is 192.168.2.1.

2. Please enter the user name and password. The default user name / Password is

admin / 1234. Then click Login.

3. Click VLAN Configuration >> 802.1Q VLAN, and click Add Icon .

4. Please configure as below, and click OK.

a. Configure VLAN ID as 10.

b. Configure port 7 as tagged.

c. Configure port 8 as untagged.

d. You could enter memo in the field VLAN Remark Name.

5. Click Add Icon .

6. Please configure as below, and click OK.

a. Configure VLAN ID as 11.

b. Configure port 6 as untagged.

c. Configure port 7 as tagged.

d. Configure port 24 as untagged.

d. You could enter memo in the field VLAN Remark Name.

7. Click Save.

8. Click VLAN Configuration, and click PVID.

For VLAN unaware device, we need to modify PVID for these devices.

9. Click the Operation Icon , and configure as below.

a. Port 6: PVID 11.

b. Port 8: PVID 10.

c. Port 24: PVID 11.

10. After configuration, please pull down the menu and click Save.

11. Connect Router A to GS-5424PLG to port 8 via cable;

Connect Router B to GS-5424PLG to port 6 via cable.

Test

1. Please use a wireless adapter to connect to Edimax-10. It will obtain IP address

automatically from Router A, and have the internet access.

2. Please use a wireless adapter to connect to Edimax-11. It will obtain IP address

automatically from Router B, and have the internet access.

And it is able to login the web management of Edimax Pro AP.

3. The laptop connects to GS-5424PLG port 24 is able to obtain IP address

automatically from router B, and have the internet access.

And it is able to login the web management of Edimax Pro AP.
