YOUR FIRST UNDET PROJECT
Congratulation! You have successfully installed Undet – Point Cloud Tool Box for AutoCAD and its vertical products.
Undet will help you to create 2D drawings and 3D models faster and easier. This section will explain your first steps for
using Undet.
START AUTOCAD WITH UNDET
From Windows environment go to: Start->Undet->Point Cloud Tool Box> Undet on AutoCAD _______
OPEN POINT CLOUD TOOL BOX PALETTE
After Undet installation in AutoCAD environment you will find:
- Point Cloud ToolBox Ribbon Tab, if you work with Ribbons
- Point Cloud ToolBox Menu and Toolbar, if you work with classic style interface.
To start work with Undet, press Open Point Cloud ToolBox , it will open Point Cloud ToolBox control palette.
CREATE NEW PROJECT
1. At the Point Cloud ToolBox control palette press New to open New Project dialog box
2. Select Project type for optimal point cloud performance.
3. At New Project dialog box press Add Files , to select files to import
4. In created list of files, select all files with same format and press rigth-click at Format field to assign data format.
5. To start data import, press Create Project and enter new Project name to save imported data.
6. Please wait and work with other programs, while import in progress.
SET 3D MODE AND ZOOM TO OBJECT
1. Turn on 3D Color Mode to get better performance and to see point cloud in colors.
2. Change view point to object (with ViewCube).
GO TO DETAIL WITH VIEW SECTION
CREATE VIEW SECTION
Create

Box
Define Box, to see in detail
part of point cloud,
CHANGE SIZE AND POSITION
View Section size and position can be changed in two ways: 1. Select Point Cloud, to get properties palette
(press keys ‘Ctrl+1’) and change Geometry. 2. Select Point Cloud and change View Section
size by dragging grips, position and orientation by dragging gizmo.
Change properties
Move grips
Move gizmo
Rotate gizmo
CHANGE THE COLORS AND VISIBILITY
ASSIGN COLOR SCHEME TO VIEW SECTION
At the status bar selects:
Coloring by
View
Sections
sets coloring to Active View Section. Active Coloring Option is displaying and can be changed in
View Sections List. There are several Coloring Options, that can be used for View Section
coloring:
None – removes all coloring from Point Cloud Object in Active View Section. All points have the same color, specified in AutoCAD options.
By Intensity – colors Point Cloud Object in Active View Section by the settings, specified in Coloring Options dialog box, By Intensity tab.
By Z – colors Point Cloud Object in Active View Section by the settings, specified in Coloring Options dialog box, By Height (Z value) tab.
By Plane – colors Point Cloud Object in Active View Section by the settings, specified in Coloring Options dialog box, By Distance from Reference Plane tab, using
Reference Plane, which is matches with current UCS Plane by default settings. If you want to change Reference Plane, use Change Plane command.
Source – colors Point Cloud Object in Active View Section by RGB palette colors, which were specified in imported Point Cloud Data Files.
Specified colors (Red, Green, Blue, Custom color).
CHANGE COLORING SETINGS
Data by Intensity, by Z, by plane can be represented by different ways. Use Coloring in View Preferences tab to change
representation settings.
CREATE ORTOIMAGE
Generate Image
Converts Active View Section to raster image co-planar to Screen Plane view. Launches Image Preview Dialog Box, where you can set grid cell size in square meters to define image precision and detail level. It is strongly recommended to use 2D B&W Mode for digitalization of raster images.
Here you can see preview effect of the changings, which you have made with Image Settings tool.
Zoom Changes the magnification of the view by zooming in and out
Best Fit Displays the maximum extents of all visible objects.
Image Settings
Sets grid cell size in square meters to define preview image precision and detail level.
WHERE TO FIND MORE INFORMATION
To get more information:
Read Help. You can find it on Start->Undet->Point Cloud Tool Box>Help section. Choose Online Help to get most
updated information about Undet, if you don’t have internet connection, please use Offline Help. Alternatively

PERFORMANCE RECOMMENDATIONS
RECOMMENDED AUTOCAD AND UNDET SETTINGS
ADOPT AUTOCAD BY YOUR NEEDS
2D B&W
Mode
Turns on drawing settings to 2D drawing mode. This mode is recommended to
do 2D digitalization of raster images, which can be generated from Point Cloud
Objects in Active View Section, using Generate Image command. Point Clouds
Objects in this mode appear in bicolor.
3D Color
Mode
Turns on drawing settings to 3D drawing mode. This mode is recommended
when you do modeling or digitalization, using directly Point Cloud Object or
created View Section. In this mode Point Cloud Objects appear with predefined
colors.
Point Cloud
Density
Use lower value for higher performance.
SELECT OPTIMAL PROJECT SETTINGS
Coordinate system recommendation:
o Use original coordinate system, If your surveyed object
coordinates is:
1. In range -10000 to 10000 is recommended to use default value
Original coordinate system.
2. Out of range -10000 to 10000 and you have to draw 2D
drawings or 3D model from primitives like box, cylinder…
o Use Project coordinate system:
3. If your surveyed object coordinates is out of range -10000 to
10000 and you have to draw complex 3D models, using
advanced 3D modeling commands like Revolve, Sweep…
Max. Visible Points Count – recommendation to set this value is interval from 2 to 10 millions. Lower value gives
higher performance, but will be visible smaller part of object in detail at once. Higher value will course lower
performance, but will be visible larger part of object in detail at once. Selection of this value depends on your
hardware configuration. Setting this value too high to your hardware possibilities can course system to out of
memory or to hide all points.
Project type impacts performance of your point cloud project management, this selection must be done depending
on your project, 3D scanner types and is tradeoff between visibility, performance and different projects tasks.
Selection guidelines:
1. LIDAR data management and analysis – this selection suitable for fast navigation, and data management in LIDAR
projects. In this case Point Cloud data are collected using Airborne scanners.
2. Topography, Corridor mapping, 3D City modeling – this selection applied for extracting topography objects and 3D
models from point clouds. To collect point cloud data for this project type we can use Airborne, Mobile or Terrestrial
scanners.
3. Buildings, Infrastructure objects, Plants – this selection is applied for 3D modeling and 2D drawings of any objects
which we scanned using Mobile or Terrestrial scanners.
4. Detailed scanned objects - this selection applied for drawing detailed scanned object parts or small objects. In
most of case to collect point cloud data for this project type we are using Terrestrial scanners.
LICENSE MANAGEMENT
License manager can be accessed in two ways:
1. At the trial period manager will appear automatically when you will try to open Point Cloud ToolBox palette.
2. At any time License manager can be accessed at About Undet dialog
