How to Use the Materials 1. Review the sight words (numbers 1-10) using the provided flashcards. To assemble the flashcards: A. Have children count the number of candies on each card and write the number in the box. To make this task less challenging, pre-write the numbers in the box. B. Help children cut out each card along the dotted lines. C. Fold along the solid line and then glue so that the word number is on one side and the candies are on the other. D. OPTIONAL: Have children color the candies and trace the letters. 2. Have children color and cut out the Monster Food. (This is another great opportunity to review counting and numbers!) 3. Help children complete Feed Me, the provided mini book. A. Explain to children that they must “feed” the monster the number of candies it’s demanded. B. Have children match each cut-out of candies from the Monster Food sheet to the corresponding number word in bold. C. Paste the corresponding cut-out of candies onto the gray box. D. Have children color and decorate their monster mini book. E. Help children to cut the pages in half and assemble the mini book. To make this task more challenging, mix up the pages so that the numbers do not appear in order, e.g., "Feed me five!” comes before “Feed me three!” F. Have children practice reading the book aloud. © Anna Ho 2014 Flashcards one three five seven nine Monster Food 1 3 5 7 9 2 6 4 8 10 cut place glue © Anna Ho 2014 © Anna Ho 2014 Feed me eight!
