How to volunteer with ORM?
Volunteering is all about using your skills to change the world we live in. To volunteer both in Ireland and Moldova, to use
your talents & time for the good of others.
We are an equal opportunity, non-denominational Irish charity that
promotes the concept of global
giving.
Volunteers working with charities worldwide are very
unique in that they recognise the very real need for assistance and are willing to stand up and be part of the global team to address that
need. It is a great way to give back to others.
“You give a lot, but you gain so much more”
As an ORM volunteer you will give a lot in terms of energy and skill, but you will gain so much too.
The resounding response from volunteers in Ireland and those returning from our ORM projects
abroad is that you get back ten-fold what you put into it.
If you have ever thought about travelling abroad to do charitable work, this may be what you are looking for. We offer overseas volunteer placements for people
from a wide range of backgrounds.
ORM offers you the opportunity to travel to Moldova to see firsthand the wonderful work being done and a chance to take part in life
changing and life giving programmes.
Volunteering with ORM in Moldova
Our volunteer programmes run from 10 days (general programme) to 12 months (specialist programme). The
ORM volunteer programme offers such flexibility that you may be one step closer to realising your dream of making
a change in the world.
We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 10 days of their time to work on meaningful projects for vulnerable children in the Republic
of Moldova. It may well be the most challenging and rewarding
experience you'll ever have.
Or you can volunteer with us right here at
home.
Before you apply you must ask yourself the following questions:
1) Are you aged between 18 - 70?
2) Do you live in the Republic of Ireland or
Northern Ireland?
3) Are you in good health?
4) Are you available to work overseeing for a minimum period
of 10 days?
5) Will you be able to live and work with new
people?
If the answer is yes to all of these questions, then you can follow the ORM 3-step application
process below, bringing your dream of becoming a volunteer abroad one step closer to a reality.
Step I THE PAPER WORK
To proceed with your application you must complete all ORM documentation.
THE VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM
This form comes in 5 sections.
Section 1 - General Application Form Section 2 - Available dates for volunteering in 2012 Section 3 - Doctor’s Certificate Section 4 - Volunteer Agreement & Release Form Section 5 - Safeguard Programme Form
ORM CHILD PROTECTION GUIDELINES & POLICES
Please read carefully our Child Protection Guidelines & Polices. They guidelines are in place to protect the wellbeing and safety of the
children.
Step II THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS
You will be called to attend the ORM Pre-departure Day. There will also be guest speakers & returning volunteers to give you more guidance. The event includes full orientation to prepare for the volunteering journey & includes a variety of group activities &
interview.
Step III THE FUNDRASING PROCESS
We ask all volunteers to fundraise to cover the cost of their trip to Moldova. The minimum cost of a 10 day stay in Moldova is
currently €1,950, of a 7 day - €1,750. This will cover all costs of your travel & stay while working with ORM & provide a small
contribution to the children’s services.
THE MATCHING PROCESS
If your assessment is successful, you’ll be allocated to a group to travel to Moldova. We will try to allocate you your first choice of dates, but we’ll ask you to provide alternate dates you are available in the event of your
preference dates being full.
SPONSORSHIP
Volunteers are responsible for raising sponsorship. This will cover all the costs involved in volunteering including
airfares, insurance, room and board, internal transfers and
local transportation and all organized events and activities.
Most volunteers have succeeded in raising funds significantly in excess of
€1,950 and this has helped us enormously in improving the conditions and facilities
for all the children.
We will provide you with sponsorship forms,
fundraising support and a video/DVD of
conditions in the orphanage. All funds raised must be forwarded to Outreach
Moldova and receipts will be issued to you and to any of your multiple sponsors as
needed.
Outreach Moldova will provide the appropriate tax refund application form (C2HY form) to you for those individuals
who have donated €250 or more.
All volunteers are encouraged to raise as much sponsorship as possible and all surplus funds
raised will be used in their entirety for the benefit of the children. That’s our promise to you.
Fundraising for your Sponsorship
Taking the hassle out of your fundraising
ORM asks you to use www.mycharity.ie . It gives you the ability to do you fundraising on-line. It’s like an electronic version of a paper
sponsorship card. You can set up your own site in less than 3 minutes, personalise it, add photos, your own text if you want, just by clicking on www.mycharity.ie/create.php and follow the simple
instructions.
You can then pass on your page and what you are doing to all your friends
and loved ones by a simple email or by using the brand new mycharity.ie application for facebook Email.
Just e-mail the link for your fundraising page to everyone that you know, saying that you’re doing this event for ORM and “please sponsor me” in your own
words.
Fundraising for your Sponsorship
Your friends will click on the link in the e-mail and will be brought straight to your fundraising page on the mycharity.ie website, and from there they can sponsor you via credit and debit card. This sponsorship is transferred directly to ORM’s
bank account on a monthly basis.
This takes all the effort out of contacting people, getting them to sign sponsorship cards, going and
collecting the sponsorship, counting it, lodging it to the bank etc. It is entirely electronic and ORM can see that the money came in for you and for what – an event,
your sponsorship to travel etc.
Facebook: If you have a Facebook Account then
mycharity.ie has a brand new application that integrates with your page and posts all donations made to you via my charity to your facebook page and to the facebook
page of all those that donated! It couldn’t easier, all you have to do is click on
http://apps.facebook.com/my_charity and it is done!
