Our Journey So Far
TeamQuest was acquired two years ago for key servers and applications
TeamQuest Predictor, Analyzer and CMIS
Initial focus was on the predictive capabilities with Model.
50 Manager agents installed on physical servers (Windows, AIX, Linux, Solaris)
Additional license purchases annually and/or on a project basis since then. 67 licenses. Agents on 66 physical servers and 252 virtual servers (318 total)
To allow predictive analysis to happen in pre-production environments in combination with testing activities related to projects.
For TPI backward-looking hotspot analysis.
For Performance troubleshooting.
For reporting.

Our Journey So Far
Through our ITSM process (ITIL-like) predictive and/or performance analysis is part of every project.
Various types of analysis have been performed for projects. Examples shown in the Appendix.
Monthly Capacity Plan report
TeamQuest is used to gather VMWare-related information
At Cluster, ESX Host and Guest levels
TPI values from the previous month are used.
Total Storage Allocated to VMWare
VMWare Guest Server count
Reviewed by I.T. Management monthly.
All servers with sustained “red” TPI values are assigned for follow-up via the ITSM Problem Management process.
Deep-dive troubleshooting uses supporting TeamQuest charts (Components of Response)

Our Journey So Far
ITSM Performance and Capacity Virtual Team Meetings
To keep all of I.T. management up-to-date on the latest happenings and future plans in the Performance and Capacity Planning area
Annual Roadmap for Performance and Capacity
To identify implementations to be performed and an opportunity to make purchase recommendations to close gaps. 3 year view.
Some TeamQuest-related gaps remain to close.
Training of Operations and Application Support teams on the use of TeamQuest:
In-house TeamQuest training.
One-on-one sessions with individuals.
Attend “TeamQuest University” webinars.
Lunch & Learn’s in-house.
September 10, 2015 6
Ongoing Activities
Secure sign-on to Administration Console via implementation of secure SSL Security Certificate.
Installation of additional Manager agents on virtual servers (where we are licensed already)
Upgrade Admin Console and Analyzer.
Plan to move to the latest version.
Installing and configuring agents, configuring AutoPredict and setting up reporting on Solaris servers.
Researching how TeamQuest plays in the Cloud.
Make TeamQuest agent installations part of the Operations server Build Book .
Attendance at “TeamQuest University - 2015Q3 Product Release” on September 15th, 2015.
September 10, 2015 7
Future Roadmap
Additional license purchases and agent installs.
POC of Surveyor for improved reporting and automation.
Some out-of-the-box reports look interesting.
Health Check reports as well. (from Surveyor video on TQ site)
Kick the tires on TeamQuest IntelliMagic Storage agent.
Once all of our storage arrays are supported (Hitachi and NetApp)
Expand Capacity-related reporting (Predictor, AutoPredict and other)
On the AIX and Linux platforms.
At the Application level.
Automate agent installation and customizations on AIX, Linux and Solaris.
Increase adoption and use of TeamQuest by I.T. by leveraging training opportunities. Camtasio Studio to produce short Tips and Tricks videos.
Getting a reliable forward-looking predictive AutoPredict policy in place.

Open Discussion
How are you using your Enterprise Performance and Capacity solution in your shop?
1. For Capacity Planning?
2. For performance analysis and troubleshooting?
3. Do you have the capability to automatically predict what might happen in the future?
4. Reports/Dashboards: Segregated by group? CIO, Management, Capacity Planners, Operations, etc.
5. Any other use cases?

Appendix - Predictor
(DR – 4 options considered)
September 10, 2015 10
Appendix - Predictor
Will the current production infrastructure used by this function be able to handle historical peak workloads as well as increased workload from this new functionality? If not, why not?
September 10, 2015 11
Appendix - Predictor
Application is moving to HTTPS. What will be the impact?
September 10, 2015 12
Appendix - Predictor
How will multiple tests run in DEV run in production? What will be the impact on the application response time?
September 10, 2015 13
Appendix - Predictor
How will the application run with additional users added to the system? Current usage is 50 users/day, how will it run with 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 users? Will there be any problems? If so what will be the bottleneck and when will it occur?
September 10, 2015 14
Appendix - Predictor
Will the application workload generated in the pre-production environment during the two tests run OK in the production environment? If not, why not?
September 10, 2015 15
Appendix - VMWare
We highlight the worst performing VMWare hosts and guests in the last month.
We trend VMWare Datastore Usage
We also trend the total VM’s by month
