Cambridge Minnesota Kennel Club

Board Meeting

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

The meeting was called to order by President Glen Kothe. A motion was made by Wayne Harmon, seconded by Eileen Bowen, to

accept the agenda as published. Motion passed.

Approval of minutes of previous meeting minutes – no report

Secretary’s Report – no report

Treasurer’s Report – Tim Bergeron reported that the balance is approximately $44,500. The cluster check has been processed. July

Agility 2014 and August Obedience 2014 was reported. A donation has been made to the East Central Veterinarian Spay/Neuter

Fund. The program continues to work well with the previous fund down to three dogs that had not used their coupons. The Isanti

County Humane Society continues to support our work and is greatly for our efforts in the community.

AKC – Wayne Harmon reported that he did not attend the September meeting as flight prices to Newark were cost prohibitive and

that the amount of money spend could be spend on other club related events. The only votes to take place were for committee mem-

bers, all previous committee members that ran for positions were elected. The majority of conversations were centered around the

mandated National-Owner-Handler-Series. All all-breed clubs and parent clubs will be mandated to offer the series at one of the two

shows they are eligible to host. If not, no special attractions can be offered. A conversation also occurred relating to the suggestions

being proposed by the Obedience Advisory Committee. The discussion was centered around the option of sit/down in competition, a

new level of preferred classes and mandates regarding non-regular classes. The next meeting will be held in December in Orlando.

No votes are scheduled.

Legislative Report – no report

New membership – The first reading was discussed for Amanda, Brenda, Tony and Emily(junior member) Polipnick. They live in

Milaca and have standard poodles. Wayne will contact them to invite them to the match.

Sanctioned Match – Cheryl Zitto will be match chair for October 25 at the Total Recall Training Center in Hugo. Lunch will be

served at 11:00 a.m. followed by a short meeting and then the match. Kathy Gladen-Kocher will be the conformation judge. There is

no cost for the meal or match and all are invited.

OLD BUSINESS

North Branch Kid’s Carnival – this event was organized by Karen Lawrence. Sharon Varone, Cheryl Zitto, Nancy Bergeron and

Wayne Harmon also participated. The event was extremely successful with hundreds of kids at the event. Purina supplied the club

with 100 lunch bags and 100 bags of training treats. The club supplied coloring books, crossword puzzles, word finds. Prizes in-

cluded dog toys and the “If I Ran the Dog Show” books. It was felt the club should continue to participate in this event and also find

an event in Cambridge in which it could be replicated. Eileen Bowen will check into community events in Cambridge in which we

could participate.

June conformation 2015 – The dates for the Summer Solstice Cluster will be June 18-21, 2015. Thursday will have puppy groups,

Friday NOHS groups, Saturday bred-by groups and Sunday NOHS groups. Friday will be designated American Cancer Society Day

with a request for all to wear red. Theresa Goiffon will take over the role of On-site Hospitality. Gretchen Hofheins-Wackerfuss will

take over Combined Specialties. The Heart of Minnesota Pug Club has requested a supported entry with sweepstakes on Saturday.

December Agility 2014 – Glen reports that Sue Kothe has everything in line.

April Obedience 2015 – Wayne Harmon will contact Annette Bujold to inform her of the message that an error has been made re-

garding the show application.

July Agility 2015 – There is no place available for this event as the showsite has been lost due to new ownership. Plans include look-

ing for a new site and date.

The Holiday Brunch will be held at Running Aces in Columbus on December 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.. A “white elephant” gift ex-

change will occur. Please contact Tim and Nancy Bergeron for reservations by December 16. [email protected]

Meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.

Wayne Harmon, acting Secretary

First Readings: Amanda, Brenda, Tony and Emily (junior member) Polipnick. They live in Milaca and have standard poodles.

Cheryl Zitto is looking for slightly used and almost new show clothes, male and female, to give to

the Junior Handlers at the Junior Handling Seminar at our 2015 shows. I am also looking for a clothes rack that can either be donated or borrowed for this event. Juniors are our dog show

future and we all know how expensive this sport is and is becoming.

Thank You in advance

Cheryl Zitto

6 Thanksgiving Treats You Can Share with Your Pets By Dr. Justine A. Lee, DVM, DACVECC Reviewed by Bill Saxon DVM, DACVIM, DACVECC on Monday, October 13, 2014

Dogs, Cats, Seasonal Care, Nutrition, Preventive, Food, Food Allergies, Thanksgiving, Holidays

Posted October 21, 2014 in Dog Diet & Nutrition As Thanksgiving approaches, accidental poisonings often occur in dogs (and less commonly cats) – that’s because they often get into the delectable human foods while table or counter-surfing! To be safe, make sure to keep your dog crated or your cat locked out of the kitchen while you’re preparing your Thanksgiving feast. More importantly, satiate your dog or cat with non-toxic treats. Of course, not all Thanksgiving foods are dangerous. And it’s a holiday for your pets too, right? With that in mind, here are 6 safe treats you can give your dog or cat this Thanksgiving. 1. Turkey 2. Vegetables 3. Bread 4. Salmon 5. Cheese 6. Stuffing without onions, garlic, raisins or currants) For more information on this topic, please visit the full article here.
