HowTo “Change FG2-Logger with GPRS/UMTS/LTE into Live-Data Collector”

Preconditions:

You need one (or more) miniloggers (below 1 string logger) and one Logger (of our FG2-series, grey

box) with GPRS or UMTS or LTE modem.

The collector has our (internally type nr. 134). The minilogger does not need any modifications

(except Step 1). Whereas the GPRS/UMTS/LTE logger requires new/changed firmware and some

setip.

Below is a FG2-Logger with directly connected string:

In the following instructions, a FG2-logger of this type is changed to a (FG2-) Live-Data-Collector.

Files: You wil need 3 files:

- param_134_livecollector.bin

- livecollector_1v2_type134.bin

- livecollector_parameter_default.txt

All files can be downloaded from our company server

ftp://130.180.108.25 -> firmware\Flexgate2\134_b_LiveCollector\EU_433MHz

Step1: Check the Minilogger(s):

Check or note (Radio) Net and ensure Life-data is et to „Always“:

Step 2: Check the Setup of the GPRS/UMTS/LTE Logger that will become the Collector:

Check or note (Radio) Net and Internet Setup (especially IP, scripts, server and APN, you’ll

need/verify it in Step 7)

Step 3: Update Parameters and Firmware on the Collector (maybe if the Net is changed in the

parameters, close the Setup, select the logger again and repeat Step 3, as shown in Step 4):

(optionally) Step 4: If the Net is changed, the logger must be re-selected:

(here the Net remained unchanged, so the Step 4 could be omitted…)

Step 5: Import a predefined mask for collecting temperature data:

Enter the Serial Number(s) of the remote minilogger (only for the first channel, all other channels are

“cached” and the values may be taken from the cache, else it really would need VERY long… All live

data are sent in one “Live Frame”). The mask contains 1 minilogger (Type “Digital String, Standard

accuracy)” with up to 20 sensor.

ONLY DS-Temp:

The “Index” of Digital String Values starts at Index 192 (= Channel #1 on the

remote logger (Because the Digital String Minilogger stores Standard accuracy

the value represents 1/100 °C per Count (eg. The value -1700 represents -

17,00°C, hence the “Multiplier” is set to 0.01 (this is already done in the mask

for max. 20 channels)).

Index 255 is special: it represents the Signal strength the collector can see for this live data. This

value is often helpful to find good signal quality and a good position for the collector. Ideal is 120-

200, see Step 8.

Step 6: Enter your offset to GMT here. The FG2-Shell may vary it +/- 60 secs max. to balance the load

of the server (only if the value is exactly a multiple of 1 minute):

Step 7: Check / adjust the Mobile Internet Settings (as before seen in Step 2):

Step 8: Now you can check, if the “new” collector can receive the latest measurement values of the

minilogger and the signal quality. Check if you have selected all channels that you want to send to

the server (the measurements are still stored on the minilogger, just as normal).

Note: Signals in the range 80-100 may work “sometimes”, but not reliable. In this case: find a better

position for the collector. Below 80 the signal is too weak…

(Optionally Step 9: ) Do an Internet Transmission either by entering the command “cm” in the

Terminal (or “cm1” for MORE verbose output) or press the internal button on the logger until the

LEDs are on (button only available for NON-SDI12-loggers with supply voltage <= 9Volt).
