ELEGANTThe quality of the materials and thespecial internal structure make it lightand particularly suitable for garden use.
SILVERGREENIts exclusive multilayer structure makes itremarkably pliable, elastic and easy tohandle. The total anti-UV protectionprevents the formation of algae.
ABOVEGROUND IRRIGATIONWater is carried by hoses, with an inside diameter proportionalto the quantity of water and the distance covered. In medium-size gardens, the diameter is normally 12 or 14 mm: a largerdiameter is suitable if the garden is bigger, or when water pres-sure is low.
FLEXYFORT The extrastrong hose made to last; thesecret lies in the choice of materials andthe strong mesh inside reinforcement.
TOP BLACKThe non-toxic hose made from 100%pure material, with black exterior toprevent the formation of algae, andtransparent interior to guarantees totalwater purity.
AQUAVIVAThe strong and easy to handle hose, thanks to the special reinforcement, withanti-algae interior to ensure best waterquality, ready for all garden uses.
How to immediately find the diameter in inches of a hose. Use thispractical conversion table for inside and outside diameters. There isalso a graduated scale along the edge of the page: place it againstthe inside diameter, then compare it with the length of thecoloured lines. The red line corresponds to 1/2”,the blue to 5/8”, the yellow to 3/4” andthe green to 1”.

The hose is an important asset that will only last if cared for properly: after use, it must bedrained of all residual water and put in a dry place, out of the sunlight.
To store your garden hose neatly, without bends and twists, and to carry it without dragging, there’s nothing better than a hose-cart. Claber hose-carts also allow continuous water flow
without having to extract the hose. Just unwind the length required: water flowsthrough the hose-cart hub into the wound hose and out the other end.

Supplying just the right amountof water to each plant, justwhen and where it's needed -this is the fundamental ideabehind drip irrigation. A newtechnology, with a wholerange of advantages for youand your garden friends!Frequent watering with a
perfectly measured amount ofwater, without waste, increasesoxygenation of the soil, andfavours vigorous plant growth. Now you can create your ownmade-to-measure irrigationsystem, large or small, to satisfyall your garden wateringdemands.
The starting point of the systemis the PROGRAMMABLE WATERTIMER, which automaticallymeasures the amount andfrequency of daily wateringoperations. Water is supplied tothe DRIPPERS and the MICRO-SPRINKLERS, which guaranteecontinuous, accurate flow.
Drippers can also be adjusted,to distr ibute just the rightamount of water to suit therequirements of your plants, while accounting for the natureof the soil.
SAVING WATERDrip irrigation will not only help you save time, but also that most precious resource for nature, and of course for your garden:water. The pressure required by the system is in fact lower than that of conventional systems. You can also program a lower irriga-tion frequency for CLAY SOIL, where water penetrates less than in SANDY SOIL. In this way, distributed water is used right to the verylast... drip.
Excessive or insufficient wate-ring can seriously damageyour plants. The VERSATILITY ofdrip irrigation now solves thatproblem; just observe the rightwatering procedure for thepart icular soi l, plant andclimate type, as indicated inthe table below.

IRRIGATION TIME AND FREQUENCY
DRIP IRRIGATION
In vegetable gardens, different plants demand different types of irrigation. Plants with a morefragile disposition towards water, such as tomatoes, can be irrigated by drippers, therebyeliminating the risk of water build-up and the formation of fungus. Lettuce and recently-seeded ground however require watering from above by micro-sprinklers fitted tosupport stakes, an arrangement designed to deliver a fine rain-like spray.
FLOWER BEDS AND LAWNSDrip and micro-sprinkler systems offer a wide range of solutions to meetthe requirements of all plants types and garden areas. For flowers, plants and shrubs, 90°, 180° and 360° micro-sprinklers arerecommended, as are adjustable flow and self-regulatingdrippers, all designed to save water, because it is directedstraight to the plant roots. Strip micro-sprinklers are best forlong, narrow areas, such as garden strips. Small surfaces orplants with delicate flowers? Use micro-sprinklers, for a fine, natural rain-like effect. Large areas with flower beds orlawn sections? Rotary 360° micro-sprinklers are just theanswer. All sprinklers can be installed on robust supportstakes; sprinkling height can be adjusted asrequired to actual plant height. Micro-sprinkler jets may also be modified by thespecial adjustment valve.
VEGETABLE GARDENS AND GREENHOUSES
POTTED PLANTSAround the house, on the balcony or the patio, the pot is one of the most frequent habitats for a large number of domesticplants. Drip irrigation is the single solution to the very different watering demands of your plants, and also eliminates theproblem of shifting and relocating pots around the house. ONE or MORE WATERING LINES can be created, to cater for diffe-rent irrigation time and frequency, thanks to targeted dripper types that can be easily arranged as required or set tooperate at specific times.
These battery-powered timers are the brains behind the RainJet system. Allit takes is a few seconds to set a customised program on two separatelines; the timer will automatically control watering operations at set times, even when you’re away at work or on vacation.

321Fit the electronic water timer with thepressure reducer (code 91040) to thetap. The water is supplied through a 1/2"hose or directly by a 1/4" feeding tube;connect it to the water timer by meansof the automatic threaded connector(code 91494) and the coupling (code91345).
The 1/2" hose can be used to create averitable watering circuit ideal for largebalconies; in this case, use the 1/4"feeding tube to connect each of thedrippers.
The Claber hole puncher makes hoseholes with the exact diameter required, forwatertight connections between the hoseand feeding tubes. The tool can also beused to adjust and tighten drippers.
Installing a drip irrigation system is easy! For best results, simply follow the steps below:
PRACTICAL “DIY” INSTALLATION
54
25
Cut lengths of the 1/4" hose to measure. After makingholes in the 1/2" tube for each branching, connecteach length to the 1/2" tube by means of the 2-wayconnector (code 91155). For greater flexibility andcontrol of water flow to each branching, a tap canalso be used for each feeding tube.
Fit the drippers to the 1/4" tube in such a way that theyare near the plants to be watered, along the path ofthe tube marked out by the stakes. Once installationhas been completed, all you have to do is set thewater timer (and don’t forget to turn on the tap)!
With the new Colibrì System, all the advantages of the undergroundirrigation system are finally accessible for small gardens too. A simple, convenient idea, designed with DIY in mind, it comes complete witheverything the gardener needs: from the new Colibrì pop-up micro-sprinklers, 1/2" polyethylene tube, the push-on couplings for all types oflay-outs, through to the drainage valve (to protect the system fromeven the coldest winters) and battery-powered timers, to ensure thatlawns and gardens are watered at the best time of the day, evenwhen the owner is away or on vacation. All this, with one extra advan-tage: total Claber quality, certified ISO 9001.

50 m2
The Colibrì System has been designed especially for gardens between 50 m2 and 200 m2. As the examples show, all areas canbe covered perfectly by selecting and combing different micro-sprinkler types: 90°, 180° and 360°. Irrigating with the right amountof water is good for the garden, and for the gardener’s pocket. Water is without doubt a precious resource - and thanks to theversatility, watering uniformity and low pressure requirements of Colibrì System micro-sprinklers, you’ll be able to use it to maximumadvantage, down to the last drop. And you can also program the system watering cycles for the best possible time, whatever theclimatic conditions or the type of garden, with the help of the table shown on this page.

To install the Colibrì System, proceed as follows. First of all, plant a stake at each point where a sprinkler is to be installed. Now jointhe stakes with string to trace the path that will be followed by the main tube. At this stage, use a spade to mark out a trenchalong the path, pushing the blade to full depth. There’s no need to dig; simply work the blade back and forth, as illustrated, tomake a space in the ground that is sufficient for the tube, without actually removing any soil or damaging the turf.
INSTALLATION GUIDE
33
Screw the sprinkler onto the tee and set it temporarily on the stake, for examplewith a turn of insulating tape. Proceed with another length of tube and the nextmicro-sprinkler, and so on, until you have completed the entire circuit with thelast sprinkler (or with the drainage valve or the plug).
Once the path has been marked out, connect the 1/2" tube to the timer, thenunroll it along the path and up to the first stake. Cut the tube to length with a pairof scissors, then fit the threaded tee (the connection can be made even moresecure by using a clamp).
Before laying the circuit in the trenches, test the system. Turn on thewater and check that all areas to be sprinkled are completelycovered by the 90°, 180° and 360° micro-sprinklers; if not, adjust theirrange or the angle as necessary.
Once testing has been completed and alladjustments have been made, simply laythe tube with the micro-sprinklers in the tren-ches, then remove the stakes. Tread the turfback into place, and in just a few days allsigns of the installation work will have disap-peared.
Colibrì System micro-sprinklers are desi-gned for easy and precise adjustmentboth of the watering range (i.e. thedistance covered by the waterjet) and of the operating posi-t ion (for 90° and 180°models). To adjust the
watering range, simplydisassemble the top ofthe micro-sprinkler androtate the screw with a 3mm Allen key. To alter
the jet angle, raiseand rotate themicro-sprinklershaft.
Remember tocarr y out these
operations before laying the circuit in thetrenches; bear in mind also that themicro-sprinkler is factor y-set to themaximum range.
For best results when installing Colibrìsprinklers, fit a collar (code 90250) asshown in the example, to protectthem against sand and pebbles inthe ground.
UNDERGROUND IRRIGATIONReasons for choosing a Claber Rainjet underground irrigation system There are a lot of good reasons for installing an underground automatic irrigation system:• the convenience of having your garden automatically watered, even when you’re away or on holiday (no need to find
someone to come and look after the garden);• the knowing that all areas of the garden will get the necessary amount of water, without waste, assuring maximum economy;• no hoses above ground to get in the way of the lawn mower – sprinklers are flush to the level of the lawn and are hardly noti-
ceable;• silent operation, causing no disturbance to neighbouring homes;• increased property value – no well-tended lawn can today afford to do without an automatic irrigation system.

WATCH OUT FOR THE COLD!In areas subject to frosts, a drainage valve should be fitted atthe lowest point of each irrigation line. When the circuit isclosed and no water is circulating, the valve automaticallyopens to release residual water, which otherwise if left to freezecould damage the hose. When water flows through the hose, the drainage valve automatic locks.

PLANNINGUse a compass to mark the circumference or circle sectors reached by each sprinkler, until the entire surface is covered. For best results, position the 90° sprinklers in the cornersof patches to be watered, 180° sprinklers along garden strips, and 360° sprinklers in openspaces. The examples given in this booklet show the arrangement necessary to coverlong and narrow areas evenly. The circumferences, as seen in the examples, meet toguarantee total coverage of ground and the even distribution of water in all points. When arranging the sprinklers, refer to the recommended spacing indicated in the tableson pages 40 and 41.
DIVIDE THE AREA INTO CIRCUITSReferring to the sprinkler output table, write in the water consumption (in l/min.) next toeach sprinkler. Group the sprinklers into distinct areas (use different colours), summingprogressively the water consumption.Make sure that the water consumption in each area does not exceed the available flow. You should aim at creating a well-balanced system, i.e. each circuit should have thesame water consumption.
CHECK THE AVAILABILITY OF WATERMEASURE THE WATER
PRESSUREClose all household taps. Fit apressure gauge to an outdoortap, then open it completely(STATIC pressure). Ask yourplumber to lend you a pressuregauge, or hi re one. Take themeasurement at different timesduring the day and night.
MEASURE THE AVAILABLEWATER FLOW
Simply time how long it takes tof i l l a recipient with knownvolume.

MARK THE LAYOUT OF TUBESStarting from the point where the solenoid valves controlling each single circuit willbe installed, mark in the tube connecting each valve to the sprinklers (previouslygrouped into areas), thereby drawing independent valve circuits. Since trenches willhave to be dug to lay the pipes, mark in straight lines, avoiding as far as possibledriveways, terraces and other obstacles.
The diagrams on the following pages give examples of the positioning of sprinklers. Bear in mind that:- 90° sprinklers should be positioned in garden corners;- 180° sprinklers should be positioned along garden strips;- adjustable sprinklers are best used for 270° or irregular angles;- 360° sprinklers should be positioned in central open spaces.

Don't forget pipe FLOW RESI-STANCE: refer to the pressureloss table indicating thevalues to be subtracted fromthe original static pressureavailable. The DYNAMIC pressureobtained should be sufficientto guarantee correct sprinkleroperation.

PRACTICAL “DIY” INSTALLATION
Go into the garden and turn your project into an efficientlyoperating reality. A set of solenoids controls the opening andclosing of irrigation circuits.
The water supply line to thevalves is subject to the entireamount of stat ic pressure(when the circuit is closed); forthis reason it should be madefrom a watertight metal pipe.
As a rule, the diameter of thetube connecting the valves tothe service line should not beless than the diameter of thevalves.
It is also a good idea to fit agate valve upstream to shutoff the enti re system whennecessary, for example whenmaintenance work is required.

45Once the solenoid valves have beenconnected to the main water supplypipe, take your plan and mark thepath of tubes of each sprinkler circuit.Plant a stake at each point where asprinkler is to be installed. Now join thestakes with string (or with chalk powderon the ground) to trace the l ine ofeach circuit tube, from the solenoidvalve to the sprinklers.
Use a spade to dig a trench at least20-25 cm deep. This won’t take muchof an effort, and should be enough toprotect the pipes against winter frost.
To avoid damaging the lawn, heapthe dug earth on plastic sheeting, thenremove when finished.
At each stake, place a sprinkler andthe threaded bracket extensioncoupling (before applying the exten-sion, drill a hole in the tube with a 10mm bit) on the ground.
Unroll the polythene coil, from thevalves to the stakes, along the markedpath. Put the “T” or connectorcouplings and the drainage valves inthe position for installation. Straightenthe tube properly before cutting it tolength (better too long than too short).Use a hacksaw to cut the tube; cleancut ends with a scraper before fittingcompression connectors to ensure acompletely watertight connection.
Once the desired coverage is obtainedand the circuits have been arranged, laythe tube in the trenches. Make sure thatthe sprinklers are positioned flush to theterrain surface; the threaded extensionsupport ing the spr inkler can besegmented to adjust sprinkler height. Now connect up al l tube lengths
At the end of installation, the circuit should be emptied of all residues and earth. To do so, simply unscrew the head from eachsprinkler and open the valves; the water pressure will flush the circuit clean. Screw the heads back on the sprinklers, then fill in thetrenches and level to the surrounding area (and the upper edge of the sprinklers). Your irrigation system is now complete andready for operation, controlled by an automatic watering timer.
between the sprinklers and the valves. Fixthe sprinklers in a vertical position (tiethem to the stakes with string), then openthe valve (in sequence) to test circuitoperation. Shift the sprinklers as requiredto achieve per fect coverage of thewatered ground.
47HOW TO GET FREE CLABER ADVICE
- In any case, read this booklet carefully, to get a general idea of the system.- Outline your garden on the graph sheet (available from your Claber dealer), indicating the position of your house
and any other fixtures with the symbols suggested.- Fill in the table with the water and electricity mains values available.- Write your postal address and telephone number.- Have your dealer stamped the garden plan on the graph sheet. Your dealer will then forward it to the CLABER
TECHNICAL SERVICE.- On the basis of the plan, Claber will send your dealer a system PROJECT and an ESTIMATE of the components
required.- The service is in no way binding for either party, and will not alter the terms of product guarantee.
