The story is based on geologicsurveys which started on late 19thcentury at the western parts of theBlack Sea region. Now, thesesurveys are carried out by MTA(Public Organization for MineExploration) at around the Karabükregion. Township of Eflani, which isneighboring Safranbolu town, and is47 Km. away from the city centre ofKarabük; is located among the highmountains and valleys. Having a richflora, Eflani is surrounded by forests,and rich marble stratum some ofwhich are being exported. HP Marblehad been operational in Eflani regionsince 1999. The limestone stratum ofHP Marble!s Rustic Green quarry isspread over a large area. Aftergeologic studies, it was determinedthat these limestone precipitatedduring the “Eosen” period about 33to 50 Million year ago. The lowestlevel stratum presents a limestone ofdark grey color with clay and sand.Over this layer, lies the stratum oflight grey–beige and khaki-greenlimestone that is extracted.

Trapped in the limestone that isextracted by HP Marble are thefossils of primitive living creaturesnamed as “Nummulites”, “Alveolina”and “Coral”. These fossils havevarious dimensions ranging from assmall as a water droplet to the sizeof a palm of the hand. The fossilscan be distinguished in detailespecially when the stone is polishedafter being cut. Some other surfacefinishing processes like flaming oracid washing, causes some of thefossils to protrude, as if they havecome out through a time machine.

The rich fossil content and theformation geometry suggests thatthe Eflani limestone precipitated atsea and reef environment,

not at lake environment like most ofthe other limestone samples. Thehigh pressures of the seaenvironment are the reason whyEflani limestone has a relativelyhigher strength and durabilitycompared to the other limestone.

Another characteristic of Eflanilimestone that is acquired from thesame sea environment is thecommon uniformity of the stone. Dueto this uniformity, the stone can beprocessed in relatively largerdimensions. The line up of thetexture and the structural orientationpresents some precipitation marks

what is called as “veins” in themarble market, but these may alsobe interpreted as wave marks of thesea environment.

Eflani limestone, having been formedmillions of years ago at the lively reefand sea environment are decoratingthe buildings of today; contributing tothe lives and values of theresidences with its unmatchedphysical characteristics, style,aesthetics, and living stories.

HP Marble has two main groups ofcolor selection of this Eflanilimestone, which are called “RusticGreen” and “Turquoise”. Based onthis selection, the surface finishingapplications are utilized as below:

In addition to the above applications,there is a different product where thecutting direction of the slabs isperpendicular to the “veins”. Whencut like this (vein–cut), The veins arevisible, and the fossils are oriented ina different way.

The mother company, “HÜKMÜPEKER CONSTRUCTION, TRADEand INDUSTRY INC.” had been activein the building and constructionbusiness since 1978 as one of theprominent companies in this businesssector in Turkey. When it was decidedto invest in the natural stone business,the company had all the experienceand knowledge about the requirementsof construction and building as far asnatural stones are concerned. Initially, HP MARBLEhad quarries in Sivrihisar andHaymana, but later operations werestopped due to inefficiency of thesequarries. Just around the same time,the quarry of Rustic Green wasattained. Rustic Green or Turquoise

were new material, unknown by theworld markets then. However, byconsistent efforts for good qualityproduction and service, these materialare known and used in about 30countries in 5 continents today. ANKARA PROCESSING PLANT

Located at Temelli – Ankara, themain processing plant wasestablished over a land of 33.500 m2

where 6500 m2 of it is an enclosedspace. The total productioncapacity in terms of thin tiles andslabs is over 300.000 m2. The top ofthe range and Italian madeprocessing machinery are utilized.

The tile line is a high capacity one,and therefore it can produce largequantity of tiles in very good quality.The slab line has two gang–saws,resin line, slab polishing line,flaming / bush hammering / sandblasting machine, two of bridgecutting machines which are usedfor cut–to–size orders as well as forproducing profiles. Additionalauxiliary machinery like edgepolishing, kitchen counterproducing machines, etc. completethe range to enable us to quote formost of the project works.
