Anatomical Pathologists Locations:

UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN/GROOTE SCHUUR TERTIARY (REF: WNCGSH – 0717 – Anatpath)

Main Purpose of the Job

To provide service delivery, undergraduate and post-graduate training and to undertake research to assist clinicians in

patient management, to build capacity within the field and to build knowledge within the field.

Key Job Responsibility

■To perform, interpret report on and authorise a full range of laboratory tests and autopsies with the specified turnaround times. ■To

guide clinicians (including internal and external customers) in the selection and interpretation of laboratory tests to optimize patient

care, including the provision of an after-hours service. ■ To participate in regular clinicopathological meetings with clinicians from

various clinical specialties ■ To establish, maintain and accept overall responsibility for a quality assurance program in order to

maintain SANAS accreditation. ■ To provide formal teaching and training to undergraduate and post-graduate students as well as

medical technologists in order to impart knowledge, teach skills and assess competence. ■ To provide theoretical and practical

training to post-graduate students to build capacity in the field. ■ To participate in outreach programs to educate and empower
